Just an FYI…
My daughter is a dual enroll student currently taking a math class at a PSU branch campus. She has taken the ALEKS assessment test already in order to get into the class. She was recently accepted for University Park summer 2015 and her admission info told her to take the ALEKS assessment. So I called admissions because she’s already taken it.
I just got off the phone with new student orientation, and basically, she has to take the assessment again. Not sure why, because she’s already in a math class, but I am sure other dual enroll students are in the same boat so I thought I’d pass it along. If you’ve taken the ALEKS assessment prior to regular admission, you will have to take it again.
@jihpsu Once she completes the course she will be exempt from the test. You have to send them test scores. I’m in the same situation I’m a dual enrollment student and I’m taking calculus and I have to send my official college and high school transcripts to all my colleges
@turqluv I think since she is going for summer 2015 we don’t have that option. She needs to schedule her classes long before the semester will end, and they need her ALEKS scores to let her schedule. I’m not sure why they won’t just use the scores from 2 months ago - but they said they can’t.
@Tooth1010 I don’t think you can study for this test. It’s intended to show what you know so they know where to place you in Math. You can’t really fail it because if you don’t test into the class you want, you just have to take a pre-req class first. My daughter tested into the Math 021 class, which is college level math. Advising says that a score of 30% or above demonstrates the ability to take college level math. http://advising.psu.edu/aleks/understandyourscore.html. The higher you score, the higher math class you can test into. My daughter has taken up to Algebra 3 and trig, but no calculus.
