Hi,

I have an option to take UC Berkeley's Academic Talent Development Program's course on Algebra 2/Trig over the summer, because I'd like to go straight into Pre-calculus in the fall. However, my school district does not accept any credits from outside institutions, even though this course offers 10 credits.

What my school has said I could do is take the course, then in September (assuming I had successfully completed the course), they would give me a readyness test for Pre-Calculus, and if I passed it, I would be moved into Pre-Calculus. However, Algebra 2/Trignometry would not appear on my transcript. My counselor says that this should not be a problem when applying to college because although Algebra 2 is not explicitly on my transcript, Pre-Calc would be on there, and would show an understanding of Algebra 2. She says as long as I take at least 3 math classes, I would be fine for meeting the requirements.

This is where my dilemma lies. Should I still take the course even without credits, seeing as Pre-calculus would show that I have an understanding of Algebra 2, or is it absolutely necessary to have Algebra 2 on the transcript?

If it matters, I'm a high school freshman currently. Thanks for all your help!
