Hello!
I am a current student, but unfortunately I do not have time to respond to your question (it is a lot deeper than one may suspect) as I am preparing to go to a Model UN conference. Instead, let me leave you with this poem:

I Am the College of William and Mary
*written by Dr. D.W. Woodbridge (1945) *

We are the beautiful buildings, the stately trees, the statue of Lord Botetourt, the friendly campus. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the scholars, the philosophers, the scientists that have pioneered human progress. We come from every corner of the globe and from the remotest periods recorded in history. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the youth whom the call of duty tore from the Colleges bosom. We are fighting and dying in a thousand chimes without a thought of personal sacrifice, that colleges like William and Mary might live. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the greatest freedoms of humanity: freedom of thought, freedom of press, freedom of conscience, freedom of speech in whose presence tyranny and falsehood cannot long survive. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the traditions of the College: the tradition of honor, the tradition of service, tradition of loyalty. We are intangible, but whenever you think of the College, or sing her Alma Mater you feel that we are very real. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the City of Williamsburg and the Counties of York and James City. Our people serve the College in a myriad of ways, ministering to all her manifold needs. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

I am the Commonwealth of Virginia. My history and that of the College are inseparable. I was at her side in her darkest hours, when her friends were penniless, her faculty dispersed, her halls empty. Through me, the humblest citizen contributes to her support so that she may live and prosper. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the people of the United States. Restored Williamsburg is our shrine. We came by the tens of thousands to be instructed and inspired. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the Board of Visitors. We determine the policies of the College. On the wisdom of these policies her very existence may depend. We give generously from busy lives with pecuniary reward. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the President and the Administration. We weld into one harmonious whole all the diverse elements of the College and cause them to function smoothly as an educated institution of the First Order. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the faculty. Into our hands is trusted the instruction of youth, humanitys most precious possession. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the Colleges activities: the athletics, the publications, the social clubs. We educate the students in courage, in honor, in dependability, and in the social graces. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the alumni, both living and dead, upon whose minds the imprint of the College has been planted. The College never forgets us though some of us may forget her. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the students. We attend our Alma Mater in never ending processions and receive bountiful gifts. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are fathers and mothers, the brothers and sisters, the friends and the well wishers of the students in residence. We rejoice at their accomplishments. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

We are the countless generations to come. The College was founded to serve us. We are part of the College of William and Mary.

I am the College of William and Mary. I have been forged in the anvil of time by master workmen. I have faith in humanity under God. I believe in a glorious future. I am the seed of the future. I am the College of William and Mary.

haha I too am going to Harvard MUN next weekend =P

life is pretty chill here if you don't overload on classes etc. Laid back student body, like to have fun but not in a traditional sense I suppose. I don't know, do you have any SPECIFIC questions? I might be able to help you more.

life at W&M will vary depending on what you like to do.

Do you have questions about specific things? Maybe things you like to do now that you are wondering if you can continue, or new things that maybe you would like to start?

yes, I was wondering if they have a dance program- like clubs or a team...and how are the teachers/students?
thanks :)

this was talked about fairly recently on here... there are clubs, and audition groups (or, at least one).

I don't know anything about the teachers.

I know there are big ballroom dancing and hip-hop and Bangra clubs and I have a couple of friends who do dance, though I don't know the specifics.

My d is a freshman dance minor, so here's what I know about W & M's dance program. It's modern-centered; ballet is offered only up to the intermediate level. There are 4 levels of modern, and my d tells me that the top 2 levels are challenging even for an experienced modern dancer. There are 3 faculty members, each of whom is also a respected choreographer. The minor requires academic as well as technique classes. My d is dancing 10 hours a week, which includes rehearsals for W & M's modern company, Orchesis. Admission to the company is via a fall audition. Orchesis does two productions annually: faculty-choreographed each fall, student-choreographed each spring.

If modern's not your thing, W & M offers many other opportunities to dance through student organizations, some of which were mentioned in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-william-mary/639101-dance-team.html

When my d was looking at W & M, she checked out several dance clubs' websites. One of the more surprising things she discovered was that a member of the Tribal Dancers, the group that performs at games, had extensive ballet training at some of the most prestigious schools in the country, including the School of American Ballet. So W & M is a place for exploring one's options!
