I’m planning on majoring in CS. I want to apply to the ivies/MIT, but I had 2 B’s in STEM courses- I read a similar thread about an applicant who got a C in chemistry, and many of the replies were about how that they would have less of a chance at top schools like MIT because of it. I got a B in Chemistry (there is no excuse for this. I know I didn’t work hard enough, but honestly I just don’t care for sciences that aren’t closely involved w math like Physics), and I got a B in Calc AB. (I’m not saying it’s an excuse) My school’s teacher is notoriously tough-usually half of the students in her class end up dropping out, or continue throughout the year with poor grades but end up passing the AP exam. I was in the latter situation - I got a 5 on AB, and I worked my way from a B to an A at the end of the year. I think the rest of my stats are pretty good, so I just want to know if these two particular incidents would hinder my chances of STEM at competitive schools.
If you did well in Calc BC and got a 5 on the exam, then don’t sweat it. Colleges know calculus is a challenging topic for many people. I finished with a flat 90 in Calc AB, but did well on my classes afterwards, which made up for it.
