Hey all,
I’d really like an answer to this as I’m really worried lately. I was accepted to the school of engineering with a C in Trig/Calc HH junior year and a C grade for Ap Calc AB on my midyear report. Recently, however, I fear that this C may drop to a D. If it does, am I almost guaranteed to be rescinded? Overall I have a very good GPA, with mostly A’s and a few B’s in other AP Classes. So for better or for worse, the D would, “stick out like a sore thumb”. Please help with your input, and thanks.
With a few Bs and a C, your GPA is already quite marginal for CoE to begin with (~3.7ish) even without that D. The potential D may have major impact on your admission. You should talk to the admission office to see how is your situation. They do rescind admitted students every year. Talk to your Calc teacher too to see how you can avoid getting a D.
You may or may not be rescinded. I would first talk to your Calculus teacher to see if there is anything you can do to guarantee at least a C for the class. If there is, you need not bother contacting the University. On the other hand, if your teacher indicates that you will most likely end up with a D, I agree with billscho; contact Michigan and see what you should do to avoid complications down the line.
I would also seriously rethink Engineering. Engineers should be able to get As in Calculus without cracking the book open.
You may want to look for summer classes to register and tell the admission office your plan in case you are really vulnerable.
