I’m basically forced to do a all nighter for my finals Monday (90% of my finals are on that day) I’ve never done it before so I’m asking to whoever did it before, do all nighters help in studying? I’m most likely gonna do it Friday or Saturday
The most important thing before a test is to be well rested. If you stay up all night on Sat but sleep all day Sunday, how will that be beneficial?
Plan out a study schedule and get some rest. No, studying all night is not beneficial. You body requires rest.
My limited experience with all nighters is that the following day my thought process slows down and it take longer to complete tasks. Not a good thing for tests.
If you have never pull a all nighter, now is not the time to find out how it effects you. My advice is to create a plan that will allow a decent amount of sleep. It might mean that you have to cut some corners. Not ideal but will likely yield better results.
As you can see, all nighters are rarely successful. Eat well and get to bed at your regular time. Do something relaxing before you go to sleep. If you wake up with a very specific answer you can find fast, do that, then go back to bed. If you have studied and read as directed and completed assignments on time, I would expect very similar results to what you earned before. Indeed, we don’t change our habits very much, and neither do your classmates. Be sure to find a quiet place to cat nap between exams.
Don’t do an all nighter. If your finals are Monday, can you study today, tomorrow, and Sunday? The most efficient way to study is to divide your material into sections and take small breaks in between to relax and eat a snack. If you try to cram everything into your head, especially for many finals, you’ll burn out. Not only that, but the chances you’ll remember the material on the test (unless you have a photographic memory) are slim. I would suggest making a schedule and dividing your time evenly between your number of finals.
Let’s say I had a biology final Monday morning that covered four chapters and then a Psychology final Monday afternoon that included five chapters. If I started studying even Saturday (assuming you may have class today?), If you get up at 10 AM and study until 8 PM that’s 12 hours. Take about 2-3 hours worth of breaks in between there for snacks, walking, dinner, lunch, etc. So now let’s say you have 9 hours left and four biology chapters. You have a little under 2.5 hours to study for each chapter. It might be dreadful to be locked in your dorm or library studying all weekend, but you’re basically at the end, and it will be worth it.
On Sunday night be in bed at least before 10 and eat a good healthy breakfast on Monday morning! When you are well-rested and prepared, you will notice great results.
Chances are that at some point you will benefit more from sleep than studying when you are exhausted.
I would not pull an all nighter. I would study to the best of your ability and get a reasonable amount of sleep.
