All-nighters?

I saw a girl on my Facebook page and her status was something along the lines of, "12 page paper? No big deal. All night longgg!"
She's in college. And it brought up a question in my mind.
Do you all pull all-nighters?
I am very very very much against them. I'll work extremely hard during the day, but I've never pulled an all-nighter. Sleep is sacred to me.
How to avoid all-nighters...any tips? Are they avoidable?

They’e avoidable if you don’t put stuff off until the last minute.

I pulled one during finals week last year. Probably everyone does all-nighters during finals, because you have such major tests crammed right up next to each other.

I’ve never had to pull an all-nighter for school work. I like to do a little bit of work everyday so I don’t have to cram the night before for everything. For my 10pg paper due this Friday, I started working on it Saturday the weekend before. I was having a Dexter marathon and I managed to churn out a good 1/3 of it with no effort.

I have to do them occasionally, usually during exams when I’ll have 5 exams and 6 or 7 papers to do within a three day span.

I couldn’t keep up with an all-nighter AND a final. Phew. Sleep deprivation and I don’t go well together. >_<
Perhaps if I were to space out studying for midterms over a two week period or something? Idk. I just know I couldn’t do that kind of pace…or in that way, at least.

I am used to it, I only ever got like two hours of sleep a night in high school because I couldn’t fall asleep until 2 or 3 and had to get up at 5.

I use to do them ALL THE TIME in middle school, highschool and somewhat in my community college days. Then all the sudden, I realized how much my day sucked if I didn’t get a bit of sleep the night before… so I don’t do it anymore. At the very most, I’ll get as little as 5 hours of sleep, but I haven’t pulled an all nighter in years and I dont plan to.

All-nighters are often avoidable. It is mostly the result of procrastination.

The only way I can see someone having to pull one is because they simply didn’t have enough time because they were busy with other classes, maybe jobs, or clubs. But for the rest of the student population, it was just procrastination.

I haven’t pulled them in a while because I learned the hard way and decided I need to manage my time. It’s really brutal -_-

They’ve become prosaic to me. I like to be as prepared as possible and due to the fact that I usually have several exams on the same day or only a day or two apart, I’ve become used to it. I always get my best thinking done at night, so it doesn’t bother me at all.

You really shouldn’t pull an all-nighter for a 12 page paper. She didn’t manage her time properly. I wouldn’t brag about that.

I pull all nighters every week I have an algorithms homework pretty much. There’s just so much other work during the week and class that I don’t have time to sit down and spend hours thinking about some problems.

Try not to procrastinate in your college years. You want to stay on top of things, and not leave stuff on the bottom until the last minute to complete it. Utilize time management. From a result of procrastination, you’ll feel bad waking up the next morning and might be late for your classes.

I do. All the time. I get better grades doing it.

…or I might work toward organizing my time exceptionally well. Utilizing every spare moment in the day is key, I think. I’d rather have sleep/sanity and be lame!! ;)

Illness can be detrimental to time-management plans… especially if it lasts more than a week! Or if you are prone to multiple illnesses/complications.

I procrastinate…a little. But I have never “had” to pull an all nighter. If anything, pulling an all-nighter is bad. It is better to sleep than to cram things at the last possible moment.

I’ve never had to pull an all nighter. Those who does it either have an extremely busy daily schedule or just like to wait until the last minute (maybe they work best under pressure). Your prof will give you a syllabus of the semester, you already know what is coming. Read them on the 1st week. Plan ahead if you see something like “12 pages paper due on X date.”

Honestly, if you manage your time well enough, you can avoid (most) all nighters. I think in the last two years, I’ve only had MAYBE 3 or 4. It does depend a little on your classes/professors, but really, just manage your time and it’s not a problem.

I’ve had some nights where I only got an hour or two of sleep, due to writing papers, but I’ve never pulled an all nighter for homework.

I’ve only pulled a complete all-nighter once. Afterwards, I tried to go to my 10 AM class (Consituttional Law) and I made the mistake of trying to answer a question. What came out of my mouth was totally incoherent mush and I remember my prof just staring at me, equal parts concerned and confused (I was usually a really articulate student). So five minutes later I decided it was pointless to try to keep my eyes open anymore and I left class (very conspicuously stumbling out the door) and went back to bed.

I have stayed up very late working on papers since then, but I have never pulled a full all nighter. Seriously, don’t do it. You’ll feel terrible the next day and your work probably still won’t be good.
