Lol, half the time I get home from EC's at 8-9

If you can time manage a full IB courseload and local community college classes into a 1-2 hr period, well... you can't.

I have a similar sleeping schedule (10/11 pm - 6 am) as icierair, and I think it's a combination of 2 things: not very many ECs and time management.

^ Yeah.. that goes down the holw when swimming starts >.< I get home exhausted at 7 =(
But I do love the sport

Same here. When I'm not in sport I'm easy sleeping 7-9 hours with 4 APs and various internships. However, we'll see how that will be with sports.
Not that wrestling takes three hours itself, it exhausts very much in the beginning.

I'm learning to go to sleep no later than 10:30. I just have to do most of my work over the weekends or get started on it immediately after I get home.

2 days ago, my parents fixed me a BED TIME.
I've never had a bed time in my life - even when I was 6, I was allowed to go to sleep whenever I wanted.

Now, at 18, I have a bed time.
I have to be in bed by 2am - i've been pulling all nighters twice or thrice every week - i know it's bad for me, but I just dont have the time to finish it during the afternoon (ECs, volunteeirng, etc..)
If I'm not in bed by 2, my car keys will be taken away - you cannot get around ANYWHERE without a car here.
Lame face!

ok why is sleep such a big issue here? I, myself, used to get around 8-10 hours of sleep freshman and sophomore year. But then I realized that 'hey you know what, all this sleep is actually a waste of time and i could be doing something more productive' and that is exactly what i did. I studied like crazy for all my classes + some stuff here and there and within a matter of months I could function just as fine on 5 hours of sleep as I could four months ago on 9 hours of sleep. My point is simply this: don't waste time guys, we are fortunate to be in a country like USA where one can become anything with hard work and determination and I hate it when I see people that dont take advantage of this. Also, this is the ultimate age to learn and grasp everything we possibly can so just concentrate on studying, studying, and learning new stuff- no matter how trivial- because more horizons will open up. You do not need hours and hours of sleep- 5 a day should suffice. In order to be successful in life, you cannot make sleep an issue. People like musarraf and gates- just to name a few- run on 3-4 hours of sleep.

I don't see why I should be restricting my sleep. Seriously. There's no race or hurry, you can enjoy life without being Gates or Musarraf.
Beside, in intellectual work quality is way more important that quantity so I don't know about others -- I'll sleep my 7 hours.

That sucks.. luckily (or unluckily?) my parents don't seem to have a problem with my all-nighters.

^yeah, me neither...except they are like, try to get more done during the day...which is true, but sometimes not possible

2AM isn't bad

I used to know a girl who wasn't allowed to go to bed before 1AM, so that she finished every single assignment. Her mom stayed up with her. Totally irrelevant note: she was Asian.

^^^^^

haha, wow.

the sad thing is, it's 100% true...and after she got to high school the time moved up to 2am

2:00 AM is bad. That would be 4 hours of sleep for me. No one has to stay up that late unless he/she is taking more than 7 AP's lol.

b4nnd, My parents stay up with me too!
(i am asian also)

Maybe it's an asian thing.

that is so weird...ur parents actually stay up until you are done with your homework? my parents dont even know how late i am up....what do they do while they are waiting for you?

What do parents do when you stay up till 2? They yell about how you never budget your time and are such a procrastinator and are ruining their day by making them stay up. Which of course isn't true, but hey what can ya do.

Then the next night you go to bed at a reasonable hour and it's the usual "So-and-so's kid stays up all night doing homework! why don't you, you're so lazy, going to bed at 9 like you're still in elementary school, you don't work hard, i used to stay up so late"

hypocrites...god i hate it!

Oh my goodness! I need to have my daughter read this thread so she realises I'm really not that pushy a parent!

Whoa. I realized my parents are really good parents.

Well, disclaimer...parents who stay up with their kids aren't "bad" parents. They mean well...knowing that keeps me sane...after all, parents must love you a lot to stay up with you and want you to do your best. They certainly don't do it because they hate you, even if they do it out of a manic obsession with achievement. They're good parents with bad parenting skills? Who am I to say, I've never had to parent. I just hesitate to label such parents "not good" when there are parents out there who couldn't care less about their kids' educations and even parents who hurt their children on purpose. Perspective is everything?
