eat.. that's helpful.. especially little snacks that you can munch on while working.. like cashews or something.. or almonds.. and drink.. i usually drink coke or coffee.. or both.. and the rewarding thing is good too.. work for two hours and then give yourself a five minute break to do something somewhat fun.. don't do something like play a game or talk online.. cuz then those five minutes will turn into 2 hours.. haha.. the next day, in school is hell tho.. cuz u hafta survive on no sleep.. i've pulled three consecutive all nighters for my IB dossier.. not fun.. i think i just about died in those three days.. i have no idea how i managed to work constantly and then still go to school and manage to keep my head up and my eyes open.. i would've skipped, but my guidance counsellor made me promise i wouldn't skip again to catch up on homework.. haha..

Basically, the will to stay awake, the urgency of the situation and the sky-high load in front of you, will keep you awake more than anything else. Bar all other things.

But of course, eating is extremely helpful, and it's the most natural antidote to feeling sleepy. Coffee will simply make you tired and sick. And the next day, feeling much worse. Soft music or your favourite music in the background gives some motivation. Drink very cold water, it keeps you sharp. Go to the bathroom every half-hour and splash cold water on your face.

I have learnt from experience that when you overcome the nagging pull of sleep for the first one hour, the urge completely disappears, and you can go on strong for 6 hours without getting up at all. You eat a light brekkie in the morning and go to school. But sleep will come knocking after school when you get home. sleep it off for another 3/4 hours and get back to work.

If you can effeciently manage your system this way, you could pull 4 or 5 consecutive all-nighters. then you pay the sleep-debt over the weekend.

Lol, my record is 18 hours of consecutive sleep on saturday after a friday all-nighter.

wow i can relate to so much u guys have said here...i thought i was the only one..haha ...the internet..the falling asleep..it has cost me so much this yr...yeh i dont remember last time iw ent to bed before liek 1 or 2 even when i have close to no hw....n ive done soo many consecutive all nighters

yeh i think my record was like 23 consecutive hours of sleep

ojrock i kno exactly waht u mean..similarly .if u decide to take a little nap or rest for a second but then u instead work for that half hour or so..its like motive to go on or something like taht because I then just stay up and work the whole way

somehow is till manage to concentrate at school...others have a hard time believing how little i sleep...but I kno it would b so much easier to pay attention and work if i slept more

well i guess now get to sleep-finally

an all nighter? damn, if you're ****ed just pick one class you need an A in.

latest i've stayed up is 1am... and that was ap bio...

now im going to bed at 9:30pm and waking up at 7am... it's nice.

three years into secondary school, we usually take nationwide
exams that cover the first three years of work. most of the subjects then were easy, but there was this one called Intro Tech. it was loaded and the teacher didn't (or couldn't) cover up to half the syllabus. the school administered a mock exam which was going to be part of our grades and i knew that many questions on topics we hadn't treated in class were going to come out.

the introtech exam was on monday and on friday, my brain came back from recess. from friday evening to monday morning (5 am), i read three huge textbooks plus my notes and slept for only about 3hrs during that period. i practically was living on TEA, as the drug kept me going :D. i didn't sleep or bath on the morning of the exam and just went to school, fully charged. my, that was a cool experience. and i got the highest marks in that paper.

sleepless nights are necessary. at this stage, we can't do without them. and in decades to come, we'll look back on those happy/hectic years and say, 'Phew! Those times were really worth it.'

I never once had to pull an all-nighter through high school. The latest I ever stayed up was 4:45am, but I still managed to get 2.5 hrs of sleep that night, and since it was a Friday I stayed out till 12:30am the next morning. But usually I don't stay up past 12:30 doing HW on weeknights; this was an extreme case.

Once you get past 3am though, I think it can easily be accomplished. By then, you're not even thinking about how tired you are and just getting it done. Snacking and listening to rock music helps you, as does a soda or coffee.

Sleep all weekend for recovery and you should have enough steam to go through the week :)

Or

Assuming you guys are on block schedule, don't procrastinate. Do your hw the day its assigned; therefore, if you get a little behind, you won't have to pull an all-nighter.

I have been doing this since Jan. 1 and its been working great. My New Years Resolution that I have kept. hehe Do your hw in class when you have free time also or on the bus or something. Don't waste your valuable time and you won't be up all night.

I love you for posting that link

Yea, I am basically f'd for all nighters b/c I have narcolepsy. I have the ****ty form where I can manage to keep myself awake if I hit a sleep spell but I'm damn near close to colapsing. If I hit one at 3-4am I'm down for the count.

Here, we don't pull all-nighters due to procrastination. Not at all. The teaching is not so good, and at our school, the exams are extremely tough (an A is 75%). so if you want to be at the top, you have to spend several sleepless nights studying, so you can actually learn. You go to school from 8am to 2pm, but you don't really learn anything. you need more than 6 hours of study everyday, if you really want to be the best. So here, it's a necessity and not just a result of laziness.

I have a very hard time believing that.Teachers have hearts too. They would never make an all-nighter NECESSARY.

I've never pulled an all-nighter, but it seems like a pretty impressive feat. When I am trying to stay awake, I usually splash my face with cold water. That's the only thing that can consistently keep me awake.

well FlyinV, that's the way it was for us at the top of the class. and the curriculum is so tight, there is no time to cover the syllabus, so when it comes to regional/nationwide exams, you just have to go the extra mile on your personal study. That's the least you can do to make it. And of course, there are several obligations and activities you have to do in school.
for us here, it's a foregone conclusion.

You're all lightweights. I've gone 4 full days without sleep. It wasn't because I was studying or something, I just couldn't get to sleep. Still, it doesn't hold a candle to how long little Pete stayed up trying to break the world record on The Adventures of Pete and Pete.

The best tactic is to miss the next day of school. Sleep early and wake up around 4-5 AM and work the whole day. With tests, you can ususually push them back, depending on the class and teacher. That would leave you a nice whole day to catch up with the work and projects which you will most likely present when you return. With the work you have assigned the day you miss, spread it out over the next few days and get it done. This is the most effective tactic.

just stay up all night and keep yourself awake with push ups at thirty minute intervals. thats what i do. after all, sleep is overrated.

Eat

Put on some funkay music and dance

Study only the ESSENTIALS. Don't cram for everything

If typing, double up on your BS skills

Drink something
