Student didn't register for the organic lab (thinking the discussion group was the lab). Now all the labs are wait listed. Should he just register for the one that works best in the schedule? He is going to have to move or drop another class to get into the lab time. If not he will have 17 credits.

There are 40 students wait listed for the 6 sections of the lab.

If 219A is a corequisite I don’t see how advising did not catch this in July when they adjusted schedules! Has he seen his advisor?

He talked to an advisor before registering, but once he registered he thought everything was in order. Now he realizes the lab is another course number, and they are all full.

Talk to adviser immediately, it’s a big pain to miss a lab and he needs to be enrolled in one.

Pancaked, he hasn’t missed the lab yet. As of today, he is on the wait list for the Wed night lab, and that section does not conflict with his classes. YES shows that neither Chem 218 nor Chem 220 lectures are wait listed, but the various labs together have 40 students on the wait list. Every section has multiple on the wait list. How will VU handle that? Will another lab section be added? I see the afternoon labs have 72 spots, but the Wed night lab has only 32 spots. Will it help that he is in that Wed night lab? He would of course rather move things around so that he could have an afternoon lab. Is there a chance they will not give him a lab section at all? His plan is to go into his adviser first thing Monday morning in Featheringill.

As always, thank you for the advice.

Looking at YES again and there are just under 220 students in Chem 218a and Chem 220a combined, but 392 lab students enrolled in the Chem 219a lab with 40 on the wait lists. The enrollment numbers just don’t correspond at all. Any insight?

That is very strange… I have no explanation… Never known someone to take the lab without the course, no less THAT many people.

I read the schedules wrong. There are 2 sections of Chem 220. Son is now corresponding with the lab professor, so hopefully it will get worked out tomorrow. He had a great time at the Country Music Hall of Fame, etc. Besides this problem, the start of the year has been great.

Let us know what they work out for him! Glad your son is having a great time…my son is loving Vanderbilt as well!

Son emailed his advisers, registrar and lab director over the weekend. He received 2 responses on Sunday! He went to the registrar’s and lab director’s offices first thing Monday morning, and he was put into the lab that fit his schedule. It all worked out fine, but was a stressful weekend worrying about it. It was great that Vanderbilt was able to help him get it straightened out!
