hey Odie , You and I are on the same boat ;) I also got the interview 2 months ago and wrote tons of emails to the admission officers , however what I got back were the answers with no information...
I was so angry and wrote a letter like this :
Dear sir or madam,

I'm an applicant to your university this year. To be honest , your university is the one that I put my heart on . I really want to have a chance to study at your university. I got a call for business management in early May and I have a great hope to be accepted . Although I have an offer from NUS in mid Feb , I still want to wait for a respnse from your university. I have tried every way possible to postpone the admission procedures from NUS to wait for good news from your university....However, everything is too late now...I had to sign for the study loan from NUS yesterday( for the deadline was over) and everything is set now . I have to say that I really regret , I'm really upset...However everything is too late now
I'm writng this letter not to groan , not to shout at you , SMU ADMISSION OFFICERS. I'm writing this letter to criticize at your extremly, horribly slow admission procedures.I hope it would be better in the future so that no more foreign students be put into such case like me : have to study in NUS while the SMU status still remains : " Thank you for your interest in SMU. Your application is currently being processed. We will inform you of the outcome of your application in due course." What do you mean by " due course" ? Does that mean we will get the result by the end of August ? You admission officers have to remember that we are international students. We have to prepare many things before going abroad. We are not like native students who can go to study immediately when getting the result. Whether accepted or rejected , we NEED the RESULT IMMEDIATELY .
I can no longer bear it anymore . A rejected answer may have satisfied me much much more than silent together with those greatly annoyed words in the application status .
To end with , could you tell me exactly when we FOREIGN STUDENTS can get the answer? I on behalf of foreign student declare the rights to be informed of the result immediately whether it's good or bad. We can't bear it any longer.
Yours,
Ops, Am I too impolite? I now regret writing such an annoyed letter. Just the result of an overexcited moment :(

Haha. .Dandelion.. that was pretty heavy duty stuff!! I can see how annoyed you are! But, anyways..you got into NUS.. which is one of the best universities in the world..I can sorta sympathise with your situation.. My friend back in India had to wait for a month.. So if you have had to wait for more than 2 months, I can see why you are so angry! Let us know what SMU says in its reply! I think something has gone wrong for all the applicants from Vietnam..None of you seem to have got a reply yet..

yeah, there must be something wrong. the problem is, the situation was not like this last year. Some of my friends got admitted to SMU after only 2 or 4 weeks last year. Could it be that they are waiting for the graduation examination result?

Actually I know a Vietnamese who got accepted this year several days after the interview. So there should be a reason why you guys havent heard yet. Since I am waiting for my decision too (I have just had my interview last week), I know exactly how you feel ;)
Dandelion: oops did you send it? Now waiting for the reply seems exciting ;)! I agree that SMU admission this year for Vietnamese is annoying but I dare not write a brave letter like this. All hail dandelion! :D

So yours was more than a month later than mine, that's a bit strange to me. I thought all the interviews took place at the same time, or at least in the same week or month. Anyway, we both have to wait for that snail office of admissions. Maybe if we all send a mail like Dandelion's they will speed up ;)

@jaah : Yeah, I agree with you on the point that there must be a reason why I haven't got the outcome.. Maybe I'm not good enough for them to decide immediately. However, what makes me angry here is that I really don't understand what they are waiting for. If they don't like me they should reject me instead of being silent .
@all : I understand you guys are excited to know their answer ....Anyway, another answer with no information :
We treat all applicants equally regardless of nationality, even if your application is not successful, we will still respond to you. Can I have your full name and application number so that I can follow up on your case and advise you accordingly.

Haha.. not bad.. they actually responded politely! One of my friends wrote them a similar hate mail, and they asked him to withdraw his application to SMU!!

Guys, I got accepted to SMU :) How about you guys, have you all heard yet?
Actually I found out that tons of email do not work but one email to the right person can solve the problem. Since I wrote to a Senior manager in the admission officer, the outcome came just 8 hours after my email was sent!
In my email I have enquired the decisions for all remaining Vietnamese students, so let's wait whether we have a satisfactory reponse or not. Hope to see you guys at SMU!

dandelion@ How was the reply? Dont get me wrong by saying that you are not good enough :) I meant perhaps they FORGOT to write a report for your interview. That happens to me, they forgot my appication for I sent it in 6 months ago :D

jaah, I am just so so happy for you! Go celebrate and reward yourself!! YAY!! And I can't believe we will meet up and be classmates afterall! ;) See you at the city campus.

Congratulations jaah!
It's getting me more and more nervous, argh :O. I have to wait for so many important results this week and all my future depends on these results. Anyway, who did you send your mail to, jaah? Maybe I should send one too :D.

Hey guys, I sent them another email and here is the reply.

Hi,

Thank you for your application. The Admissions Committee is reverting with your application outcome shortly.

In the meantime, the university would like to assess the demand for financial assistance schemes based on the applicants for this academic year. Therefore, we hope that you can provide us with the following information:

Average annual family income

Parents occupations

You may wish to note that tuition fees for international students are S$8,250 after the tuition grant. To take up the tuition grant, students would need to sign a bond to work in Singapore for 3 years after graduation for any company of your choice. Living expenses in Singapore is estimated to be between S$800 S$1,000 per month.

Hope that you can respond to us by 2 July 2006.

Odie, answer them immediately! On the day I got accepted, an admission officer call to ask me the same thing and the acceptance came within 2 hours. Maybe they need to know whether your family can afford your education or not, then see what financial scheme they can offer to you.
I can see that you are 99% accepted! Keep us updated with the news!

last week my status is 'rejection' then i contacted one of the admission officer personally. by the time my june SAT came out, and it turned out to be 1880, higher 280 pts than the may one, the officer directly said that i should send my score by fax to him right now. then just the day i sent my fax i get a new status, 'processing', what will happen to me?.. this makes me nervous.. ( i am an international students)

levin... from what I know, SMU requires a minimum SAT score for International students before they are even considered... 1900 for the new SAT whereas 1300 on the old SAT.

And I think all students accepted to SMU will be given the MOE grant provided you are willing to work for Singapore for 3 years after graduation.

To kenyon.. yah well.. i know that is so... however i also know that for some countries which never have english as its first language will not have to be 1900 in SAT.. I am from indonesia, and SMU gives us the registration form and stated that we need a minimun of 1800. Some of our friends that get 1800 above mostly are accepted. We also currently know that one of our friend from China received a scholarship with SAT score of 1840.

In the case of my friend who did not get the MOE. He only get 1690 in SAT, but he entered the Economics. I wonder if he did not get the MOE tuition grant due to his low score of SAT or may be because of any other things?...

anyway i have been shortlisted for interview in BBm, how's the interview, anybody here... mind to tell me what is the interview for international students?

To jaah: thanks a lot! You're so helpful, everyone here is. Anyway, there's no news from SMU yet. Next week I'll be working in a project with SMU Lee Kong Chian Scholars, 23 students in total, so I'm getting a little nervous about admission to SMU.

To levin343: so you're going to have the interview? It should last about 15 minutes. In my case it was 18 while in another's, it was only 5. The professor started with my background information then academic information, kinda like what subject interests me most. Don't worry, it should not be too difficult. Good luck! :)
