All these Acronyms

Since I am new here and new to BS in general, can someone explain the acronyms to me and what exactly it means? Also, are there schools with a few different abbreviation?? Is PA the same as PEA?? I’m getting confused while reading some threads and I’d like a better understanding. I found the HADES is the schools butare those the 5 best schools or most applied too?? What about L’ville?

I’m trying to learn which schools are top notch vs 2nd tier. You all certainly know what you’re talking about!!

PA=Phillips Academy(its legal name)=Andover
PEA=Phillips Exeter Academy=Exeter

Two schools founded by 2 different members of the Phillips family.

HADES is an invented acronym. They are not the 5 best, IMO, nor are they the 5 most prestigious. But anyway, it stands for Hotchkiss, Andover, Deerfield, Exeter, St. Paul’s

Don;t get caught up in the prestige game. Look for schools that are right for you.

Ha! I didn’t realize that Andover and Exeter were Philip schools … or the history of the names/schools. That’s pretty cool.

I’m learning so much from just reading some of the posts and learning the geography of where the schools are located. While I love reading about the schools in the NE, we’re not close so those are not options for us and this kid. Who knows where the other ones will choose.

Thanks for the info!!

L’ville = Lawrenceville school (in NJ)

They are technically an option, as we (and a number of others) send our child several thousand miles away to NE. Being within a couple hours allows weekend visits (you there or him/her home), but if you’re much farther than that, you may as well be thousands of miles away.

If you prefer schools closer to the west coast, Thacher and Cate are a good start.

Thanks for the clues! Lots of great info I can always find here. Getting excited as revisit days are approaching. Good luck to everyone!
