all these APs!

So i just started looking at some of the discussion threads and I’m realizing that people are taking like 5 or 6 APs a year
holy ****, how does that even work? I have no idea how those schedules can even work
i took 2 APs this year and continuing by 2 IBs next year

Why are these number of APs important for colleges? The AP tests themselves don’t seem to be much challenging.

Do as much as you can handle, most of the kids at my school taking more than 3 APs have around a 3.2 GPA so they f***ed up. 2 APs Jr year is fine as long as they are visibily challenging I guess. Senior year id go for around 4 since you know what its like

APs are important for college because they are harder than regular classes. They have a harder rigor, you could say.It not only shows that you can handle the college work but that you are motivated and stuff. The tests just give you the college credit.

2 aps is fine as long as you aren’t trying to get into an ivy or Stanford or anything.

hmm i see but what if i would be interested in doing other things than school coursework? I do a lot of independent studying with books/sometimes coursera, and those are more interesting (and more challenging) than some school courses…

after looking at more it seems that it’s not just the number of APs it’s proportional to what’s provided in school? and haha i am looking at ivies as well

You don’t know if everyone on the website is truthful and not over exaggerating though.

The AP classes at different high schools could be easier than the ones at your school or people could be taking multiple “easy” AP classes such as AP ES, AP Stat, and AP Psych. Also some schools have more lax requirements for AP classes or no prerequisites making it easier for people to get into more advanced classes.
Honestly, you shouldn’t worry about the number of AP classes you’re taking as long as your counselor checks “most demanding” on your college apps.
