No such thing as a bad donut. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Even the out-of-the-box Entenmann’s are better than no donuts.

But my go-go is Dunkin’ Boston Cream. I had the local Dunkin’ on speed dial when I was in boarding school.

I love donuts. Prefer local bakery vs. big box (like Dunkin or Tim Hortons). An occasional Krispy Kreme is good but I think, VERY sweet.

Favorite cake donuts = chocolate frosted or a local glazed raspberry stick - wow, wow, wow!!!
Favorite yeast = Persian (cinnamon swirled w/white frosting and chopped nuts) or a fresh apple fritter.

I’m in favor of cutting donuts into pieces - I’d rather have 3 donuts - but only 1/3 of each so I can enjoy a donut - but 3 flavors.

Some of the best donuts I’ve ever had? I’ve had Voodoo which were quirky and good…
BUT… Barb’s Bakery in Northport, Michigan - wow, wow, WOW - their cake donuts are fluffy but dense in the middle with a crunchy outside - the plain cake donut (who knew?) is AMAZING.

Funny how controversial the Krispy Kreme donut issue is.

I like sweets, but they are easier for me to turn down than savory treats like a loaded baked potato or onion rings or something of that nature.

Krispy Kreme donuts are way too sweet for me, but I did grow up eating delicious glazed donuts from Shipleys after church every Sunday. I also liked their chocolate cream filled donuts. But also, you can’t go wrong with a plain cake donut right out of the oven or is it a fryer?

Yes, feel encouraged to post your BEST donut spots! City and state (or country)!

We had some donuts from Dough-Joe’s at Wake last weekend and they were amazing!

IMO, there are only two donuts worth the splurge: Entenmann’s chocolate frosted (brings me back to childhood) and a good farm stand apple cider one.

Thumbs up on a good apple cider donut sprinkled with cinnamon sugar (and even eaten WITH some fresh apple cider!)

Biagios Donuts in Eastlake Ohio…THE best. But you have to get there early…they sell out. The one I like best is a cream filled one. Delicious.

Sorry, @thumper1, but THESE are the best donuts anywhere.

I’ve had those and they are terrific!

So for folks near Portland ME…yes.

But for folks near Cleveland Ohio…Biagios is terrific. When I visit, on of my BILs always gets up very early on a Saturday and gets a dozen for us.

I miss our little donut shop. They had the best ones. We always stopped after church/Sunday school as a treat for the kids sitting thru the whole thing. :grinning:

Oram’s donuts in Beaver Falls, Pa. Old school. Since 1938. An old steel mill town outside Pittsburgh. They have seasonal donuts too and their cinnamon rolls are the best. Best I’ve had anywhere and my family loves donuts.

Favorite donuts ever are at Doughnut Plant in NYC!!! https://www.doughnutplant.com/

We also have 2 local independent donut shops and they are really good, too, but $38/dozen or $4 each is just insane. https://www.darlingdoughnuts.com/

I’m not a fan of places that just make plain donuts and fancy them up with different glazes (like Duck). I guess my favorite more frequent indulgences are either the Boston Cream at Dunkin or the coconut ones at Wegmans.

We were given a gift card to the Fractured Prune in Ocean City NJ last year. They make each order as a custom order. No premade donuts. They have a ton of different toppings from which to choose.

And if you are in Ocean City NJ…go to Browns for their very nice freshly made to order donuts.

You are making me nostalgic. About ten years ago, we were in Tel Aviv for Chanukah and the city was full of all these pop up jelly donut spots. (Jelly donuts or sufganiot are a traditional holiday food.) It was a thing that year. Before that people settled for the standard, red jelly filled kind with some powdered sugar on top. All of a sudden, there were exotic donuts, filled with halvah and topped with Nutella. It was great! We got a list of ten best donut spots and methodically visited each one.

My H would like it if I was a donut person, but I prefer a good bagel if we are getting something to eat in the morning!

Sweetwaters - Kalamazoo, MI

I knew of college kids who went dumpster diving for the excess inventory around 3 a.m.

Home of the Breaking Bad inspired “Blue Sky” doughnut. (Vanilla cake doughnut w/ blue cotton candy icing with “blue meth” rock candy.)

And then there’s the Red Chile Chocolate Bacon doughnut. Chocolate and red chile is a match made in heaven. Plus bacon. Who doesn’t like bacon?

For Halloween, they make “spooky” doughnuts–spiders, witches, pumpkins and ghosts shapes made out of raised yeast dough then decorated. So fun and delicious.

Their apple green chile fritters are also wonderful. (Green chile and apples–don’t knock it until you’ve tried it. Apple green chile pie is a Thanksgiving staple in the New Mexico.)
