Hi guys I am taking an ALP exam next week... Can anyone who took it before tell me what kind of questions they give, and if it's really hard to get the required score of 10? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.... :)

I’ll take it in the few weeks after you guys. What is it basically? A small 1h-long essay exam about anything? or is it more or less like the CGSE?

It’s an hour and a half long essay; seems fairly easy, however if you score below 10 you’ll need to take additional english classes before they’ll let you register for all other courses. If you score below 8, they might even revoke your acceptence to Columbia, from what I’ve heard… I’m not sure about it… But as you see, it’s pretty important…

Can anyone who took it say something about it please…?
Thanks guys :)

Hi Katie! I wish I could help, but I am taking the test in August. Please, please, please let me know how it is. I am terrified, to say the least, of not getting a good score.

I just got my ALP results, I got a 10!! So… Don’t worry guys, they’re definitely not looking for a perfect essay, cause mine wasn’t and I got a maximum score

I used simple words, to make sure that my grammar was good, and just tried to make some logical arguments…
All right, gotta go back to study; I hope this helped some of you.

I am going to have the ALP test next week and found out that you took this exam. Can some one please help briefing me what kind of test it is? What are the 2 quotations you got??

Hey guys I really do not remember the quotes, but don’t worry the exam is easy and it also isn’t graded harshly. You can’t really prepare for it, and that’s the whole point-- they want to see your English level at this point. You can read about it a little on columbia website.
