I have already been accepted into Penn's engineering school. I want to study mechanical engineering then possibly go to medical school. Has anybody had any experience with this path? Do you recommend taking the courses needed for medical school and not engineering (like inorganic or organic chemistry) during the summer? Will I be at a disadvantage if I apply to medical school with an engineering degree?

Few classes within the MechE curriculum overlap with the pre-med requirements, so it would be really tough to accomplish both. Since the average GPA for freshman SEAS students isn’t very high, it’ll make getting that high GPA needed for med school admissions very hard to get. Although, if the grades are there, engineering can’t hurt as a major.
