alright, i give: chances?

I always thought (and still do think) chances threads are pretty pointless, but my whole college application process is complete and I am bored and curious.

white, male, 18 years

School background: I come from a small town school. No one from my school has ever gone to Princeton (at least in the last 50 years). I don't think anyone has even applied, but I'm not sure.

Rank: 2nd out of 160, but it is very close to being 1. (difference is like 97.3 to 97.00). School is not very competitive, send 1 or 2 to a good school each year. (last year northwestern and boston college)

SATs: (2250) CR: 740 Math 800 Writing 710 took the test twice
SAT 2's: math1: 730 chem 750 ush 750

AP's: school does not have lots of APs, but I took 5 out of 9.
-AP calc AB (took as a sophomore):4
-AP Chem (junior) 5
-AP USH (junior) 5
currently in AP Government and doing Calc BC as an independent study

Recs: good I guess. My counselor rec was very positive, talked about me being humble in a small community despite my accomplishments

EC's:
-captain of golf and tennis teams (4 years on golf team, 3 on tennis)
-student government treasurer 2 years
-community service for church about 50 hours
- guitar for three years
- started a debate club in my school this year
Wrote my 150 words on my most important EC which I listed as running, I lost about 65 pounds doing so in the last 2 years.

Work:
-tutor currently
-busboy at restaurant
-clean houses for the bank during summer

Application:
-said undecided between degrees, between chem and chem engineering (kind of regret saying engineering because i only had a 4 on ap calc)
-had 2 typos
- I tried to be very honest, I have seen tons of kids beef up their apps with bs, but I guess the college has no way of knowing.

Essays:
-wrote common app essay about my future of wanting to do research and how my dad wanted me to do finance instead of chem
- wrote about person who has influenced me (wrote about a rock star who is very smart and donates money, not bono!)

Awards:
-won a couple local science awards, honor society, nothing big

no hooks: not an athlete, minority, or legacy

Overall: I know my stats and EC's are pretty pathetic compared to other applicants (national merit, academic team, research, top school peeps), but I was hoping that my small town-ness would maybe make me seem diverse. Its not life or death from me, I've been accepted to a good school already EA. So what do you think? Oh and I have an interview coming.

Your stats certainly put you in the running. If your essays demonstrated real passion and uniqueness, that could be a push. It's refreshing you present yourself with honesty, I think schools value integrity more than students care to believe. Good luck!

well I don't think they can see through the application to see who has been honest and who hasn't. I wish they could though.

if something is suspcious, the college may contact the school to determine that authenticity of the claim (or so i have heard from former admissions officers), so honesty is certainly the best way to go.

as to your chances, the test score and grades are competitive enought, but there is little that makes you stand out, and, since your school does not historically send many students to top schools, i would have to label princeton a reach for you. best of luck!

Yes definitely a reach, but maybe they will look at it and be like "wow this kid went to this small school that we've never heard of and did just as well as this "xyz" top-notch school kid on his AP's and SATs. Then again maybe they will be like "just another joe shmoe who won't be able to keep up with the work."

bummpppppp

I'd say you have a good shot... :) Anyhow, all the best!
