Things have changed since my first son was accepted into engineering and we are now starting to think about our next son. Can anyone tell me if all of the colleges ask if you will accept an alternate college or is that only for business? For example, if you apply LAS, will they ask you if you will accept an alternative choice of ACES?

Some colleges do offer alternate for certain majors, but it isn't guaranteed. I would say if he is worried about getting in, apply for a major in LAS or even ACES in a smaller major. There is a better chance of getting in and then you can transfer later, unless of course he wishes to do Engineering, it is a lot harder to transfer to that major, though possible.

No, the new part of the application was a box you checkmark as "Consider me for Undecided-LAS if Denied from college of choice" or something of that sort. Essentially, the new option is that if they deny you from your program of choice, they will apparently (if you have checkmarked this box) evaluate you for coming in as Undecided. I checked the box, but got into my program of choice so it did not really matter. I'm sure there were some people who were given Undecided after being denied from their program (I've seen posts here on CC regarding that).
