Alternate major choices when applying to UC as transfer?

What significance does a selection of an alternate major make with regard to transfer admission? If you theoretically are not accepted under the first major you select, will they then consider you for the second major?

Thanks

Most of what I’ve read suggests that the alternate major is very very UN-important when they look over your application. If your daughter gets in, then she will probably get her first pick. Although there are situations where they admit people for their second choice, these cases seem pretty down-played in practically everything I’ve read on the topic

That said…

I personally used that alternate major space for rhetorical value. Behold!

Berkeley: Applied Math Alt: N/A
Davis: Applied Math Alt: Statistics
UCSB: Act Sci Alt: Applied Math
UCLA: Fin/Act Math Alt: Math/Econ

My goal is to become an actuary, and my first choices all communicate that point. The back up majors show that even if I don’t get my first choice, I will still pursue the same career path, which communicates my dedication to my major. These subtle points, I think, are more important than “hoping to get your second pick.”

Thanks sega18…

She is tagging to UCSB but also applied to UCI, SDSU and Cal. She will most likely go to UCSB and has not completed all the pre-req’s for the majors of any other school she applied to. She called me and told me that she looked and realized she had more pre-req’s for her alternate major at Cal than her first choice major…hence the question. So I guess she will just wait and see…
