alternative energy

If you want to eventually work in alternative energy--solar/wind/fuel cell cars--but don't know what exactly yet, what kind of engineering should you major in undergrad?

sounds like either electrical of chemical to me.

yeah? what do you think about mechanical?

if going for biomass, then chemical.
if going for solar, then electrical with emphasis in solid state

Mechanical or Electrical Engineering would fit well.

we focused a lot on alternative energy in my materials science class. I'm ME/MSE, but we never talked about it in any of my mechancial engineering courses.

Mechanical, almost certainly. For wind/tidal/hydroelectric, ME is the best.

For solar, EE.

For biomass, Chemical/Mechanical.

I'd say go with the big 3, ME, EE or ChemE.
