Alternatives to learning Precalc at school?

Hey

So the summer is approaching and my school needs 8 people to sign up for the summer precalc course for it to happen. I REALLY need to go to AP Calc BC next year, and there are only 2 kids registered in the class right now (one of them is me).

So, what are some alternative methods to do it if this doesn't work out? I qualify for the CTY online Precalc course, and I'd probably be completing the 3-month one in something like 2-2.5 months... Does anyone know if this program is good?

Any help is appreciated.

Try EPGY. It's good. It has more rigor than a regular summer class in a public school and you can finish it less than 2 months if you want to. I think CTY is more expensive.

"Prerequisite: Honors Intermediate Algebra (M012)"

Does that mean that I need to have taken that course with EPGY?

No. That means you already took algebra 2 somewhere. Also M012 does not cover trigonometry.

Yeah that's fine. Thanks for the recommendation. Do you really think its possible to finish this course by then?

Yes. If you don't have other things that take a lot of time during the summer. If you can spend between 12-16 hours per week you will be fine.

yeah that looks good, thanks

You need to order the book before you start the class. This may take time.
Also, to avoid late enrollment fee ($50) you need to enroll before the 15th of the month to start on the first day of the next month. In this case, you can start on July 1. If you are concerned about time to complete, you can start in June but you have to pay extra $50.

is it structured or can you do things on your own time?

is it extremely rigorous to the point where it would be hard to get a B/A?

edit: and does the deadline thing mean I have two days to pay the late fee if I want to start on June 1?

editedit: also, what income would I need to qualify for financial aid?

Do you receive an actual grade for these programs?

EPGY classes actually suck. I took Algebra I from them and got an A, but then I retook it in a real school and did really badly. So I guess they have really low standards.

I am thinking about taking Precalc during the summer as well..but I was wondering the same thing as Titan124, does the grade you receive in that class count towards your overall high school GPA?

Yes, they do have grade and transcript. But you need to ask your school if your grade is accepted or not. Some do, some don't. I don't think you need to count EPGY grade to your school GPA if your goal is to move on to the next class level.

EPGY is great for some people but may not be suitable for some other people. If you are strong in math and can work independently then EPGY is great. If you cannot learn without a teacher than you should not take EPGY classes. The fact that you already took an EPGY class then retook it at your regular school indicates that you did not make the right choice. EPGY concentrates more on logic and problem solving skills instead of asking you memorizing and repeating drills.
