Alumnus in Family

Hi everyone, I am a competitive applicant for WashU, so I won't waste your time with "chances", etc.

However, my grandpa went to WashU for all of his degrees including his PhD. How much will this help me? I think I will be applying ED.

Thanks!

Grandparent is a legacy, as is parent or sibling. It helps.

Not so sure. Grandparents aren’t usually considered legacy, but that is also dependent on the particular school. My sister and brother-in-law both got graduate degrees @ Cornell, but my nephew did not qualify as having legacy. Usually, it’s just the undergraduate degree that counts and, again depending on the school, only the parents not grandparents.

Keep in mind why they wouldn’t want to count graduate students or grandparents as legacy: there are just too many.
