ACT score : 29 (I probably will retake it next year)

Majors:International relations and Political science

Sure, especially if you raise your ACT a few points (31 or 32). Rank, schedule, and extras seem very good, with test scores lacking a bit. Of course, higher test scores or no, I can't guarantee anything, but if you are interested you should surely apply--you definitely have a shot.

Is that GPA weighted or unweighted?

31 or 32 wd put you in the 75th ACT percentile of last yr's Fr class.

...figures below are from the common data set of C (2006-07) (<a href="http://apps.carleton.edu/campus/ira/CDS1/%5B/url%5D">http://apps.carleton.edu/campus/ira/CDS1/</a>)</p>

25th Percentile 75th Percentile

SAT Critical Reading 670 750
SAT Math 660 740
SAT Writing 650 740
SAT Essay

ACT Composite 28 32

wieghted..unweight i have a 4.0

I guess thats in the middle 75th...but i heard its risky to not be above it

My tongue was a bit in my cheek when I asked about the wted-unwted. You seem like you would bring a lot to the table for a Carleton.

DUDE: I am new to this college search process - and just a Dad at that! - but if Carleton does not accept a guy who is teaching Afghani refugee English and with demonstrated academic achievment, something is rotten in the state of Minnesota.

Not as rotten, I guess, if there are another 300 such people applying to Carleton.

Keep us apprised of your decision. You'll be a nice addition to whereever you end up.

^^Hang around CC for awhile, go through an admissions season, and you'll become the toughened cynic that most of us are :).

Seriously though, I try to be realistic in my critiques--not overly negative, but not overly positive, either. I'd much rather be referenced in a "No one thought I would get in but I did!" post next April than an "Everyone said I was a lock and I was rejected!" post.

haha i never thought i would get in last spring, but i did! carleton really likes diversity and seems to stress it a lot, so it gives you and edge that you're iranian and muslim. i'm sure that you'll get in.

i got a 28 on my ACT and got in! i prolly had a great interview and/or excellent essays then...

shall I advise my daughter to wear a burka to the interview?

I know this is just a blog site, but make sure you check your spelling on your application materials.

i think just headscarf would be better, if possible. primarily, i suggest that the face not be covered.

You have an exceptional academic record (in the top 5 percent of your class), your independent research is impressive, and you are a URM. Even with the 29, I'd say you have a high chance of being admitted. If you raise your ACT up to a 31+, I'd say you'd be very very likely to be admitted. It's the URM status that will seal the deal for you.

what does URM mean?

URM stands for "under-represented minority," I believe.
