Thanks! @mom2aphysicsgeek

You do need to get down to work and think about posting only updates on your actual progress in finding schools that fit your record, that you can afford. It wastes time to dream and post on CC and miss the point.

“Dream” schools are just dreams. They accept a tiny percent of applicants, those who showed the most drive and success, maturity and understanding, throughout hs and in their communities. Your record- academics, stats and activities- is not competitive for the schools you mention. If you take a look at the info these schools provide, you can assess where you fall. QB does not magically get kids into elites.

You can either focus or not. Admissions at elites is brutal. There is no empathy vote. Sure, pick one to “reach for.” One. And go for it. But focus on the real task of finding schools where you can fit and thrive, where your record is a match and the aid is good. Tell us about those, ask questions about those.
Sorry.

I’m surprised that this thread has gone to 18 pages. OP is living in a fantasy here. All she does in this thread is “enjoying the attention”. I think it’s going to be a very tall order for her to even make QB.

Thus here are my comment to everyone involved. Please stop commenting on this thread. Everyone knows CC is addictive and wastes a lot of time. That’s the last thing OP needs. She should get away from internet and spend the rest of summer to study. Honestly the best thing you can do to help her is ignoring this thread. Please don’t even comment on my comment if you can help.

@pastwise thanks for your input! I’m definitely not living in a “fantasy” because I have gathered some pretty good advice about test optional schools and improving my scores. I have not taken the ACT yet so I just ordered books for all my standardized tests 3 days ago. Nothing is impossible. I agree that this post is super long so I am just going to focus on studying and when I receive my scores I will post them for my fellow posters to see how I did on my exams. At the moment I am watching mini lessons for how to do well on the ACT so I can be somewhat productive until I get the books in the mail. :-)

Interesting how Michael Tubbs was brought up in this discussion. There are ZERO parallels to the OP situation, and especially her responses. Michael DID pay attention to the generous advice he received, did not give up, and did DO the work needed. One illustrious CC contributor was instrumental in forming realistic expectations and keeping the correct focus. He did trust the opinions of others. That is a major difference with all the non-sense and lazy blah-blah spewed by the OP.

I have seen tons of similar cases right here on CC. Some kids wasted all their time TALKING about what they should do. Always looking for some miracle book or shortcut. And always rejecting the simple notion that one CAN increase his or her SAT scores without fancy books or prep academies. All one needs is a library card and the drive to DO the work.

OP, I thought you might pay closer attention. I thought you DO what is needed in such a short time. I am afraid I was wrong.

Can we stop posting on my thread please. This gives me a reason to respond to whatever comments a poster make since I get notifications. I am not trying to just talk but I will respond to whatever comments you have to say. I don’t really care if you do or do not believe in me that doesn’t matter. @xiggi I will receive my test books in about 3-4 days so that is all I can tell you thanks.

The B’s reflect real life class performance.
I am deleting my bookmark. If OP comes back with progress beyond studying for another test, we can help her refine. Right now, this is still about “dreams.”

Okay, you had me till this last post. You can’t tell people to stop posting on your thread, and you don’t have to respond. You have maybe had the longest “chances” thread because you came off as very sincere, yet in need of guidance. Many have told you in multiple ways what you need to do because you were so nice and humble. I hope you buckle down and do the work. Just stop.talking.about.it and do it!

Reach out to a moderator to close the thread. That will stop the notifications.

I really, really hope that you will give it a fair shot. Days ago, I encouraged you to participate in the SAT forum. Do NOT make the mistake in believing that perusing the books you ordered will magically help you secure a higher score. When you get the College Board book, immediately take it apart and created dozens of folders with section. Do NOT embark on a futile attempt to take … full length tests and spend 4 hours at a time evaluating where you are. From the posts, you seem way behind and you need to bring your KNOWLEDGE of the test up. It has little to nothing to do with your school work. Set aside a section and when finished taking it, go over all your answers – the right ones and the incorrect ones. Make sure you understood the concept and did not get “lucky.” For the wrong ones, go through the source book (whatever you bought) and identify the right tip. MAKE AN EFFORT to participate in the SAT forum (the ACT is similar) and post the questions from the Blue Book. Many questions have been answered several times and … ask and ask until you get answers you understand.

It is not impossible to raise your sub 500 scores to a level that will made you competitive for QB. It does, however, require you to develop a realistic approach. Please stop asking for opinions on your chances. None of us have a crystal ball. What we DO know is that students have done extremely well by following sound advice. There are no real secrets. You will hear … work on your SAT/ACT, work on your essays, get good LORs, and build a target list from the ground up. No matter how much effort you put in, it will pay dividends. On the other hand, massaging the present and the past will not improve your chances.

Lastly, you do NOT need to answer all comments. People here have wanted to see you … get to work. Again, you do not need to get off CC. That will actually be a mistake. There are wonderful sections in this forum. You just happened to jumo into the absolute worsr one. This is the forum where the one-eyed leads the blind. You are hoping for students your own age to have a good idea what might happen? Don’t you see the silliness in that?

Anyhow, you did get plenty of opinions because you sounded sincere. I still believe that you could do. Nothing would me happier to see showing me how wrong I was in my last post. But the sad reality is that the ball is in your court. Please come back in the SAT and Parents’ forum with updates on your progress!

Best

^ THIS! There is a reason why there is a “Xiggi method.” He knows what he is talking about.

After all this “bump” “bump” “I want other opinions” “I just want to get opinions of other people”, don’t you dare tell people to stop commenting. This is a good place for it to end, however.

SORRY ALL for the personal comment/info and for slightly being annoying!
I really appreciate all the advice you guys have given me , love you all thank you!!

Hey everyone thanks for all your help/advice! I was waitlisted at UChicago, accepted into 4 VA schools and rejected from UVA. But I am still waiting for the IVY’s tomorrow around 5pm I will get their decisions. I really appreciate everyone’s comments and opinions. I will know about everything tomorrow
That’s great to hear! I wondered how everything turned out for you. Even if you don’t get accepted off of the waiting list (and, unfortunately, the odds are against it), Chicago validated your decision to aim high. I think they also proved me, and everyone else on this site, wrong about discouraging you from applying to selective schools. Good luck!
Hey @woogzmama thank you for the support! So I was rejected from all of the IVY’s, I believe I will most likely attend Virginia Tech, and if and only if UChicago takes me off the waiting list then I will go there. Chances are very slim but the fact that I even got waitlisted is beyond me haha
Good luck!
