Chance Me - QuestBridge Finalist

Hi!

I am a rising senior who’s very nervous about my chances at being accepted as a QuestBridge finalist and being matched to a QuestBridge school.

I would really appreciate your thoughts of my chances at being accepted as a finalist and possibly matching with some of the Questbridge schools, including Tufts, Northwestern, UVA, UPenn, Columbia, Bowdoin UChicago, Washington&Lee, or Oberlin. My parents are both unemployed and my family’s total household income is below 20k (for the low income part of the standard QB scholar). Here are my stats:

Gender: Female

Race: Asian (Chinese and Malaysian)

ACT: 34 (no SAT or subject tests)

APs: Government (5), Macroeconomics (5), Microeconomics (5), Calculus AB (4), US History (4), Physics 1 (4), English Lang (3), English Lit (currently taking), French (currently taking)
GPA: 3.81 unweighted, 4.6 weighted

Dual Enrollment: Statistics, Biology, Anatomy&Physiology

Honors: AP Scholar with Distinction, Concours National de Francais silver medalist, Best Delegate at MUN conference, National Honor Society

ECs: Model UN (secretary general), Volleyball (varsity since sophomore yr), Make-a-Wish (President), Rotary International Interact Club (charter member and volunteer service chair), National English Honor Society (editor of school magazine, also helped to establish)

Employment: Public Health International Internship Program at Leadership Initiatives (currently virtual), Starbucks Barista as of April 2019

Essays and Recs: I think my essays were pretty solid, they definitely explained my background and personal growth pretty well. Recommendations were from two teachers that really liked me as a student, so that’s good, nothing extraordinary

Academic Interests: Premed+Physical Sciences

Thank you!

Congratulations on your achievements so far.

Your stats, profile, and EFC $0 (assuming) will likely get you strong consideration for finalist, but as you know, it’s highly competitive.

Meanwhile spend some time thinking about the qualities you want in a school, as the schools you mention are pretty different (in size, curriculum, vibe, setting, etc.) Do you intend to rank 12 schools?

Make sure to also spend time identifying at least one affordable safety.

Good luck.

About 1/3 of all Questbridge applicants become finalists, about 18% of all finalists are matched, and about 40% of the remaining finalists are generally accepted to one of the partner colleges.

So roughly 6% of all applicants are matched, and another 13% of all applicants are accepted RD through QB. S0 your chances are, very roughly, about 19% that you will be accepted to a college through QB. As a finalist, those chances will rise to 55% or so.
