Am I a pretty good candidate for ivy league schools or just any prestigious school in general?

Okay I’m sorry :confused: I’m just freaking out that’s all…

That is true; however (speaking as a Questbridge applicant who will be attending a top 5 LAC in the fall), most Questbridge finalists have scores of 32+, 2100+, and high subject test scores. Most also have ECs that demonstrate passion and commitment, as opposed to a scattered list that appears shallow (not saying your interests ARE shallow, I don’t know you). I think most people on this thread are concerned that you won’t be able to pull your scores up as much as you want to. I personally believe you can (because I want you to succeed) but I do wonder if someone can get from 400s to 700+ in a matter of months. I think most here would agree with me in saying that you should focus on lower tier schools for now and get excited about them. The worst thing someone can do is obsess over top tier schools when they are unqualified. It’s much better to focus on less selective schools and get surprised by a top tier acceptance!

Okay!

~end of thread~

Thanks to whoever supports me. I will end the conversation here and say that I will do my best and hopefully my scores will be good. I’m never losing hope for myself because I have potential. If you believe you won’t get into a prestigious school than you will not apply or get accepted to one, all I can say is that I hope that the harsh criticism that I receive will allow me to study hard and prove to myself that I’m capable of anything and everything with God. -

I will give you a data point for QB. My daughter had a 33 ACT, 3.96 UW, full IB program plus 7 AP’s. 4 year state finalist in her sport that was 20 hrs per week, several leaderships in clubs, governors honors school, worked about 20 hrs a week as a waitress. She was matched to her #1 school. She wasn’t on CC…she was doing what she Needed. To. Do. There are no shortcuts.

Yes, you are capable to do things, but God isn’t taking your SAT.

Unless you get above 700s on each SAT section, all of those schools are reaches.

I’m basically on the same level as OP here, im a low income African-American female with a 3.65 uw gpa
4.65 w gpa
4.0 core gpa
I’ve been trying to raise that uw gpa which was at a 3.5 my sophomore year. Im also interested in QB and I’ve taken the act and sat and am still awaiting my scores. Im from Florida and am hoping for bright futures and my schools of choice are nsu uf and fsu along with practically any school that will admit me. Im from a 6 person household with an annual income of 30k and have lived in a financially unstable situation my entire life. Im aiming for a 29+ on act but the sat im just hoping to get maybe a 1600+ (preferably 1800s eventually) I’m also interested in gates millennium. Oh and also I would be first generation.
My ECS are not too great (no leadership position)
1.DECA (10th): couldn’t continue because of schedule issues
2.BYC: its my counties youth coalition and it involves leadership overnight camps and monthly meetings I’ve attended for two years going on three
3. Im at a marine magnet program where I’m doing and ocean engineering (building ROVs) for the past two years, I’ve also done plywood Regatta which is a boat building contest for two years.
4.Various hours working at elementary school events including running fairs, etc.
5.flag football for two years
6.planning on getting a job but that might not work out lol
7.Babysitting for 4 years with my cousins and family along with neighbors
8. Math honor society member
Thats all I can think of right now but next year I’ll do more and try to get a leadership role (I ran for president for BYC but they were pretty biased for not choosing me)
Other than that I’m going to study my booty off and apply to a billion scholarships
Btw im #10/480 students so top 3% and I’ve worked sooooo hard to get that rank (I began at 48 as a freshman)
I also take AP English and AP calc and will take calc bc and AP lit next year along with AP psychology and duel enrollment through my local community college along with AICE math and marine bio (Cambridge university program)

If you guys could give me some advice it would be greatly appreciated. (:

@Marrissa Make your own thread.

@anniebeats sorry im new on here and didn’t realize it was an issue, will be making my own thread.

@Marrissa It’s fine :slight_smile: It’s like, a CC bro code lol. Don’t take over someone’s thread

You should start a new thread on the parent forum instead of chance me. You will get better response. Over the years, the parents on CC have virtually adopted a lot of young adults online. Some of those young adults still come back to get career advice.

@Marissa- Save this thread as it has some valuable advice- and in your next thread you can discuss what it specific to you. Like the OP, it is hard to advise without scores. Post your scores when you know them.

I also live in VA and For UVA instate they will want a 4.1 atleast probably a 4.15-4.2 so its alittle bit of a reach. Most of those schools you will want a 4.0 but its worth a shot. Also youll want a 2000+ Sat
for those schools

Okay how about the ACT? what should I try to aim for? I am sure all of these schools are a reach for sure @1325948

Aim for a perfect score, what else? If you were trying to improve your archery skills, you wouldn’t deliberately aim outside the bullseye, would you?

AHHH that seems a little unrealistic?? a 2400 on the SAT and a 36 on the ACT and 800’s on the SAT II?? :confused: @WasatchWriter

You’ve missed the point. There’s no purpose in having any target score in mind. How would your behavior be any different if you were aiming for a 34 instead of a 36? Just do your best.

Ohh okay I see what you are saying! Thanks @WasatchWriter
