I just joined to ask this question. Am I a URM? I am American Indian but I am not affilated with the tribe any longer. I am just a normal kid living a normal life and when I apply to college can I still put down that I am American Indian or not becuase of my tribal affiliation? I don't know anything about the tribe so I don't want colleges asking me questions becuase I won't have answers to them.

So, your saying JeffMahel is me? Thats how much of a no life you think I have? You think I have the time to go around making fake accounts and posting URM questions? Come on get real.

Well, as I have already been established as the expert, I’ll say this. Who cares about your tribe thing, the fact you have any American Indian blood in you (as long as its not like 2%) is fine. Yuck it up on your essays about your culture and make sure to state everywhere you can that you are American Indian. I mean, they take African Americans as URM without any African ties, why not an American Indian without and Indian (by bad, native american) ties.

But, I must say it is awfully suspicious that you made an account, and this is your first post. I say this because for the past view days a big thing on this thread has been some kid thinking he was an American Indian and me ripping on him at every change I got.

Also, Runs With UChicago2016 posted 2 minutes after your post. Almost as if he knew it was coming…

Of course, you could just be one of many high schoolers reading this forum looking for info but not actualy posting. Then when you saw all of this talk about American Indians and URMs you said, “hmmm, I should check that out.”

UC- just a suggestion/please do this- start to merge your ideas into one post. It’s definitely not normal to have strings of three posts in a row on one thread.

Jeff, I would look into it a bit and maybe ask your parent(s) about your family history. Just so you have something to say. Oh, and make sure to make it sound more important to you than it actually is.
