Am I accepted?

Dear XXX,

Thank you for your interest in UC Santa Barbara. You have successfully submitted your online TAG
application to UCSB for fall 2016 transfer admission. We now look forward to receiving your
University of California transfer application during the November 1 - 30 application period. Apply at
www.universityofcalifornia.edu/apply. When applying for admission, please indicate your TAG
submission on the UC transfer application and remember that your transfer admission guarantee is
only applicable for the major you indicated on your TAG application.

UC Santa Barbara does not provide an admission evaluation or early admit decision as part of its
TAG program. When you apply to UCSB for admission, we will review your TAG and notify you of your
TAG and admission status beginning mid-March through the end of April. In order to maintain your
TAG eligibility, you must meet the following conditions:

• Complete the required courses in English and mathematics with grades of C or better by the end of
fall 2015 for fall 2016 admission.

• Earn an overall minimum 3.20 GPA in all UC-transferable courses by the end of fall 2015 and
maintain a minimum overall 3.20 GPA through the end of spring 2016, and meet major prep course
and GPA requirements for majors in the biological sciences and economics.

• Complete all other TAG requirements as outlined in the UCSB Fall 2016 TAG by the established deadlines.

If for any reason you are unable to meet the conditions of the TAG, an offer of admission will
depend on your completion of transfer admission requirements and selectivity in the applicant pool.
Students who do not meet all TAG criteria may still be competitive for admission to UCSB.
Thank you for submitting your TAG application. UC Santa Barbara has much to offer you, and we look
forward to your becoming a part of our vital educational community.

Sincerely,

Office of Admissions
University of California, Santa Barbara

I got this message today and it seems to be early, because ucsb ussally tells people nov 11-15. Im thinking that my 3.7 gpa had something to do with it.

It looks like it’s just an acknowledgement that they received your TAG application and outlines what you need to do next.

No, they are saying they received your TAG application and are asking you to meet the requirements if you want to be considered for admission. It’s very straightforward and not hard to figure out:

They are saying in essence, “now you can apply to us as a transfer”.

I talked to the counselor/ transcript worker and they said " your pretty much in, just send in your uc application."

I received the same message today and was also confused as to what it meant :-S so it is not an official acceptance?

@Rayche17 No. It is not an official acceptance.

The language of the letter says that they have accepted your TAG application.

Where in the letter does it say that you were accepted to the school?

There are many posters here who have had TAG status who then were rejected because of a complication in the UC requirements.

I meant to ask if it meant that they accepted my TAG not if I was accepted into the school.

Aunt bae everything you say is valid and it dapends on the school. Ucsb and irvine are flakers and will tell we are admitted in march/ april. But we are notified today, if you know you meet the requirement and gpa is good, your pretty much in. well thats what my counselor said and i hope she is right, because i already told my parents

No, it does not mean they accepted your TAG. Assuming your definition of “accepted” is something along the lines of “reviewed it and confirm it satisfies the rule of the TAG program.”

The only information you have now that you did not have before getting this is the knowledge that UCSB has received your application. It says right in the letter " When you apply to UCSB for admission, we will review your TAG" which clearly implies they have not yet reviewed your TAG. If it turns out when they review your TAG app you are missing some requirement then they will reject your TAG app.

Two pieces of advice. First, find a better counselor. UCSB makes it clear that they have not checked your TAG app to make sure it meets the requirements. Read the 1st sentence of their 2nd paragraph. .

As to what to tell your parents, that’s up to you…

@chuchdaguch As your advisor noted, the email is saying that yes, you have THUS FAR met the requirements for TAG, meaning minimum GPA
and your course load seems to be getting you to 60 semester units, etc.

So - the ball is in your court. They are saying as long as you fulfill your part of the bargain for these next two terms (GPA, course fulfillment, etc), you have successfully TAG’d. Now, it does end up that people lose their TAGs because they violate the requirements set forth, by getting bad grades, not completing courses, or other rules.

If you had been denied your TAG due to something obvious that was not fulfilled, you would have received an email that it was declined.
