Am I allowed to apply for U of Chicago early action AND harvard's SCEA?

question is in the thread title, but for the longest time I thought I was allowed to and now I'm not too sure.

You aren’t. You can’t apply to another private school’s early program (hence SINGLE CHOICE early action).

For public schools, you can apply for early action programs. But not for private schools.

yeah, when I actually thought about the title I was like “wait a minute” lol
thanks though

But you would be able to for u of m right?

^ No I think only rolling admission schools are allowed with SCEA. Although U of M is technically public, it has early action and regular decision deadlines so it is not allowed.

It’s all very clearly explained on Harvard’s SCEA FAQ webpage: [Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Early Action](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/application_process/early.html)

@llamalampshade: No, YOU CANNOT apply to UChicago EA and Harvard SCEA! (because UChicago offers non-binding early action, but it’s not a state school and does not offer rolling admissions.)

@astleyrick53: You CAN apply to UMich and Harvard SCEA (because UMich is a state school).

^^agree with gibby:

If you apply to any of the restricted early action schools like Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Princeton…you cannot apply to Chicago, MIT, or Caltech which are PRIVATE non-binding early action schools…

…on the other hand, you can apply to Chicago, MIT, and Caltech all in the early round…but, you would not be able to apply to ANY of the restricted schools listed above…if you do.

…H, S, Y, and P don’t care if you apply to any of the PUBLIC schools in the early round…so choose your poison! Good luck!
