Am I already behind?

I am a freshman premed biology student. Last semester I took intro to philosophy, russian, intro to women studies, intro to american government and calc I, but ended up withdrawing from calc. This semester I’m taking gen chem I, russian, a seminar class, religion and precalc. I won’t be able to make anything higher than a b in precalc and as I mentioned before I already withdrew from calc last semester. I’m taking chem I this semester, because I tend to struggle with math, but I should’ve taken chem first. Will this jeopardize my chances of getting into med school?

You did not take too many med school prerequisites in your first year. That in it by itself is not a major problem because even if you did not take ANY prerequisites you still have a chance to make it up in postbacc.

The problem I can see right now is that your aptitude in math is low that will give you problem in the physics and math which are required. How are you doing in chem? Did you also take labs?

A slow start is not a problem, your sgpa is vitally important to succeed in medical school application.

I currently have a b in chem and if I do well on the final, it should bump up to an a. Yes I am taking chem lab as well.

Get as many As as you can, especially in those prerequisites. It’s never too late to apply for med school, most med school students take a gap year or two to prepare for it.

From the research that I have done (as an entering pre med freshman) it would have been better to take prerequisites that would have helped you score better on the MCAT, classes like physics, phycology, organic chem, etc.
