I am a senior and I have a strange situation.
My dad was abusive. My mom and I moved out. I moved in with my grandparents who I have been living with for 10 years. My mom is poor and is on federal assistance but I have not lived with her even though she is my legal guardian.
I called cornell asking about whose financial information I should use and she said I would be considered an independent!? Does that sound right?</p>

<p>Cornell may consider you independent for THEIR aid purposes, but it may not be for fed purposes. </p>
<p>I suspect the person with whom you spoke did not understand your situation. Your mom would be the parent you use for aid purposes, and it sounds like you would be eligible for maximum aid due to the fact that she does not earn a living wage. I suggest you email your question to Cornell; this will get you the best answer.</p>
