So I'm currently a first year at CSU Long Beach and I have high hopes of transferring out from here to a UC. My plan was to finish my first year here at Long Beach and go to a community college my second year since cc's get first priority. The only problem is that I feel like I'm going to be really behind considering the fact that everyone in CC's started their IGETC and other major UC breadth requirement courses during the summer of their first year. I was originally a hospitality management major but during the middle of this semester I decided to change my major to biochemistry in order to pursue a career in pharmacy. Now I feel like I'm very behind because I won't be taking the required courses for biochemistry majors until next semester. (such as chemistry and calculus). I just feel that when I apply for UC's next year, they're going to reject me because they'll see that I'm pretty behind as a biochemistry major. It would be really helpful if anyone can give me their opinions, insights, or experiences regarding this matter.

alot of bio and chem majors take 3 years to transfer when they start the classes their first year, go check assist.org for the pre reqs and start planning out your semesters… that will be the easiest way to tell if you can still do it in the time frame you want.

I agree with the above poster. It is OK if you take an extra year, especially considering your major. You might want to meet with a counselor at a CCC to determine your best course schedule for the next year(s).
