Am I being realistic with the things that I have?

A quick look at these things will do. I just wanna know if my desired schools are realistic. They're at the bottom.

Looking at:
Duke,Northwestern,Vanderbilt/Emory,CMU,UCSD,UCD (in order from least to most likely acceptance)

Intended Major:
Biotech or BioMed

Thanks!

I would say, academically speaking, that you are on par for the universities that you have listed. However, if you declare as Biotechnology or Biomedical, you may run into a few issues. For instance, I don’t see (and correct me if I’m wrong) very many trends in your application pointing towards these two majors. This is not to say that you are a weak applicant by any means, in fact, quite the opposite. I just think it will be important for you to distinguish why you have chosen to declare as such - possibly in your essays. Anyway, here is my two cents, mate:

Duke = Medium Reach
Northwestern = Low Reach
Vanderbilt = High Match
Emory = High Match
Carnegie Mellon = Low Reach
UC San Diego = Medium Match
UC Davis = Medium/Low Match

I wish you the very best! Also, if you have some time, I’d really appreciate a chance back. Thanks!

I’d say almost guaranteed for every school except for Duke honestly.

Thanks for the feedback. Also, I will chance back.

“Almost guaranteed for every school except for Duke”? Sorry but no. Northwestern, Vanderbilt, and Carnegie Mellon are all just about as hard to get into as Duke is. You have a solid list and you are being realistic. If you are looking at schools like Duke, lack of super impressive ECs may hinder you. But I still think you have a good chance at the schools you listed!

Duke- reach/ slightly low reach
Northwestern- reach/ slightly low reach
Vanderbilt- low reach
Emory- high match
Carnegie Mellon- low reach
UC San Diego- match
UC Davis- match

Good luck! I hope you get in!

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1561842-chance-me-duke-ed-will-chance-back-within-24-hours.html#post16449634</a></p>

thanks! anyone else? What else should I have done better to raise my chance of getting into northwestern/duke.

Vanderbilt is nowhere on Duke’s level. That’s like the equivalent of saying Columbia is the same as Princeton.

CMU has an inflated reputation because of computer science, just like JHU does for medical school.

What you “should” have done doesn’t matter much now, eh? If you must know having more focused ECs would have helped, but truly you are a strong applicant.

Chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1563616-chances-cornell-dyson-ed.html#post16463724</a></p>

I would say that you have about an average chance of getting into Duke, NW, and CM (by that I mean maybe a 20-25%). I think you should be fine for the state schools you considered. The one thing that might hinder you is the GPA being a 3.75 (but they were in really hard classes so that obviously helps)

Northwestern is by no means a guarantee, do NOT listen to what the other person said above.

UCSD and UCD shouldn’t be problems at all.

For the others,
Duke: reach
Vanderbilt: low reach
Carnegie Mellon: high match
Emory: match

Let’s not forgot that Vanderbilt’s SAT average is over a 2200.

Good luck and chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1563700-nyu-stern-ed-i-chances-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Duke: Reach
Vanderbilt: Low Reach
Northwestern: Low Reach
Emory: High Match
CMU: High Match

Thanks for the feed backs! Kinda confused, since some of my friends from last year made it into Northwestern and CMU, but had the same exact EC and grades(asides from the sports part). So I guess it all comes down to the essays and recs? It sometimes feels like the admission process to these top schools is really random. Thoughts?

bump up my post
