Am I committing to attend if I defer my admission to the following year?

I was accepted to Georgetown and I’m considering taking a gap year, but I’m not sure how this works. If my request to defer admission is granted, does that mean I am committing to attend Georgetown in 2018 as a member of the Class of 2022? Or is this a non-binding choice, giving me the liberty to apply to other places and consider other schools?

I think deferring means you’re declaring your intention to attend that school. School policies may differ, though, so I’d check their website or call their admissions office to be sure.

With georgetown, you are saying you commit to attend in 2018.
