I am applying to competitive PhD programs and feel that being Hispanic will give me an edge.

My mother is full Asian and father is part Mexican (say 1/4) and Asian. Technically I do have Mexican roots/blood in me, but is it enough to identify myself as Hispanic on my applications?

Please read the Hispanic Definition sticky thread.

No wouldn’t think so. Both of your parents are Asian regardless of your dad being half Mexican. You wouldn’t be considered Hispanic in my opinion.

^Luckily there is a definition of Hispanic and it does not rely on opinion.

@entomom…exactly what I was thinking.

I will take a look at the definition. Thanks!
