Writing Essay about living in Ecuador for 3 years

So, how do my chances look. Any input will help. And if anyone has any numbers on kids from specific states getting into columbia, please tell me. Thanks for your time

anyways, i think you've got a little work to do for Columbia. you've got good leadership and good grades, but the sat and act scores are a little low. still, you've got an interesting background obviously if you've lived in ecuador for three years, so that's definitely an eye-catcher. best of luck! and your friends are like mine--doesn't it suck? lol.

Is it harder to get in ED than RD?

Anyway, good luck dude =D

No way.. for Columbia at least, the ED acceptance rates are much higher (close to 40% i believe) compared to RD.

More competitive pool though.

The reading and writing section are little low...

not even close, dont get his hopes up. It's about 20-25%. Stronger pool, but there is still an advantage to applying ED. I don't know how much your demographic will help you, but I'm sure being from Idaho will be a plus. Write good essays and it is possible.

My comment was probably misdirected. I had in mind stories (not rumors) told to me about how adcoms would reject high-level applicants(top scores, elite ECs) b/c when talking about these top-level talents adcoms would find out their essays were recycled. Probably not applicable in this case. This is rarefied territory.

But, again, the real point is that recycling Chicago essays (unique and well-known as the prompts are) is a bad idea.

The advantage of ED is that it's easier to stand out. It's not like the adcoms suddenly lower their criteria for ED applicants.

He certainly has a chance ED, but admissions at top schools tend to be a little erratic.

It's a longshot, as it is for everybody. Test scores on the low side. ECs good, but won't really stand out. It does help that you're from Idaho (in fact, applying ED might be the only way to convince them that Columbia is really your first choice).

Your leadership will definetely help you stand out. Make sure you have great essays. Best of luck!
