I am feeling really bad right now. I thought I was good in my classes but apparently I am not.
I just got my AP score report:
AP Chem 3
AP Physics Mech 3
AP English Lang 4
AP Calc BC 5/5
Last year:
AP Bio 4
AP Calc AB 5
I do have As in all of my classes save chemistry (I had a B in that). I am feeling so desperate right now. I am a rising senior and I was going to apply for a biomedical engineering major. But, the Chem and Physics scores are so bad that frankly, I am embarrassed. And no, there was no overinflation of grades in any of my classes. Also, I actually prepared for my tests really hard. I am not saying I would have had 5s in all of them. But I at least expected 4s in chem and physics. Am I doomed to failure? Does this mean that I will not do well in college as an engineering major. I am applying to ivy league schools, umd, umbc etc.

Bump… Anybody?

You’re fine. A test does not determine one’s success. You will be fine.

I’d say that the actual scores in the class are more important overall than a grade that is based on a single test that is done in a few hours.

It sounds like you are a math whiz for sure … congrats on that! Don’t be so hard on yourself; it’s possible that the way it was taught was still valuble for life, but that the test didn’t capture how you actually will eventually be able to integrate all that knowledge. Follow your passion, if it’s biomed engineering, you will be successful at it. Go for it!

Thank you very much guys. I really appreciate the positive feedback. Snowflake, I know I want to be a doctor. Therefore, it is either biomed engineering or biological science for me. I am still thinking about the engineering v science major thing.

i say science if u wanna be doctor, engineer emphasizes physics more and less on bio
say r u applying to all the ivies?

do not worry! you should focus on other parts of your application that you can have control over like the essays and the extracurricular part. so don’t feel doomed or anything. as colleges say, they holistically look at you, as an individual. so don’t fret about a few “mediocre” scores. at least you didn’t get a 1, think about it like that.

i wish you the best of luck!

92jjxx, no, I am still researching to limit the ivies to possibly 3 schools max.
amaster008, thanks, I guess I have to be optimistic if I want to go to med school!

Yeah man, I think you did fine. Like it has been said above, focus on other parts of your application—and a test is only a test. you can always retake it, if you can.
