I am currently a first semester freshman taking 16 units. Calculus I is a 5 unit course and there is s strong chance that I will finish with a C. This is terrible but I have studied hard and there is simply no curve in the class. The highest score is around an 86 and I have a 78. The highest score on the final last year was a 160/200. Will a C ruin my chances for medical school? This would likely take my GPA down to a 3.2-3.4. I am really upset and irritated that there is no curve. Should I just drop now and take the 11 credits with a W? Any advice would be helpful.

calc is one class out of many. sure, it may take your gpa down for this semester, but by the time you're at spring of junior year, one c won't make too big of a dent in your gpa. i think whether you should drop depends on where you want to go to med school and is something that you should talk about with your advisor, not us.

good luck

to be blunt... your an idiot for not scouting out the calc classes first... you should try to always avoid professors like these...

I would definitely take the W - especially since this is your first semester. A C in a 5 credit class right away will take you a long time to make up for. If you were a senior and had a 100 units to bring up your GPA with, it would be a different story. Drop the class and talk to your friends about who the good math profs are.
