Should I drop my Calc II class?

Hi College Confidential! Wow, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted here.

Anyways, I’m a current Freshman in “college,” and needless to say, I’ve gotten myself into quite the predicament.

For context sake, I’m in my second semester of my first year of community college. Last semester, I took Calc I, and due to multiple confounding personal circumstances, ended up with a C. As it is required for my major, I took Calc II this semester, starting off strong, but ultimately screwing myself with one bad test, consequently resulting in my current grade of 74.43%. Now, that being said, have two more tests left; one on the final sections of the semester, and the final. Each test in the class is weighted at an equal 20% of your final grade, with (I believe) no test grades being dropped/replaced at the end of the semester.

So I’ve calculated what it would take for me to get a B in the class, which would require me to get an A on those last two tests, which I’m pretty sure I’m incapable of. The C would not be hard to maintain- but I’m concerned that getting another C in a math will have a negative affect on my GPA, and hence, negatively affect my chances of transferring to another school. So my question is, with the drop date being tomorrow, should I withdraw and take the “W” on my transcript and try again next semester, or should I just take the C? If it bears any relevance to this situation, I hope to apply to Med School following my Undergraduate Studies.

Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I would suggest dropping it. It’s okay to have a W. Just make sure to have few Ws. A high GPA is recommended for med school because it is competitive.

For each C grade, you need at least 6 A or A+ grades to keep your GPA above the 3.7 that you need to aim for as a pre-med.

I would drop it as well, you don’t want another C on your transcript.

I would drop it.
