i really want to go to the college of charleston in south carolina, but i am afraid that maybe my SAT scores along with other admission criteria, may not be of their standards. i have had a steady B average all four years of high school, roughly a 3.4 GPA, and had taken some tough courses also, not too many honors or AP, but challenging none the less. i have been very active in playing the violin for 9 years, and have participated in a few other extra-curriculars as well. i am semi-active in the community and have volunteered sparatically throughout high school. i work 60 hours a week during the summer at a single lifeguard pool. and had my first job when i was 12. i consider myself a pretty average college applicant, but one thing has really altered my chances, my SAT scores. i got a 570 on verbal and a 430 on math, combined for a disgraceful 1050. everytime i fill out an application, i look at the contents and feel unsatisfied and dont think that they will accept me. i applied for early admission to the university of delaware, but was rejected. i later found out that my high school guidence councelor never sent out my SAT scores. i really like what i have seen in the college of charleston and want to know if there is a chance of me being accepted.
thanks, ashley
p.s. i plan to take the SAT's one more time as a last effort to raise my score.

570 + 430 does not equal 1050. You could brush up those math skills for a better chance into schools!

i don't think this is a real post! i think this post is another joke!!!, and clearly, this person did the addition incorrectly on purpose!!!

oh sorry, i was in a rush, but i got a 580 and a 470 on the SAT. i was only remembering that i got a 1050, but, thinking about the first time i took the test, i got a 570 and 430. man i really do sound dumb. i should just drop out and work as a lunchlady the rest of my life. anyway thanks i guess for the correction

no i am serious, but the first time i took the test i got a 570 and 430, but the second time i got a combined 1050, so you can see where i didnt reread what i wrote. again sorry for the missunderstanding

i concur lol
no, i am just kidding
1050 is very okay!! especially a 580V
i only got 600V :(
anyway, i think you'll do alright, probably get into that school,
a 3.4 is pretty impressive!

I don't know about the school.... but I think that if you show yourself in your essays you'll be fine. 1050 isn't that bad at all, don't let these boards mislead you. A 3.4 GPA isn't bad at all, and talking about taking responsibility and getting a job definitely wouldn't hurt you. If you compare yourself to the other people on these boards you will almost always feel inadequate... heck I do with a 1470 lol.. just don't let them get to you and focus on yourself. Most of the high scorers on this board aren't in direct competition with you, so don't worry about them. Best of luck!

i am not sure about the school either - but I just wanted to let you know 2 of my best friends have 3.0-3.3 gpas and 950-1050 on their SATs and they are applying to several schools in MA, NH, & RI (many of them they have already got into!) Colby Sawyer in NH, Curry College in MA, U of So. New Hampshire, many state schools and U. of New Hampshire. All I'm trying to say is don't let these boards despair you - I know you can get into many schools just be sure to search around and shine through in your essays. gl!

I dont think you have a very good chance at this college. The avg. gpa is a 3.78, and the bottom 25% SAT scores is an 1140. Your gpa is .38 off of the avg, and your SAT score is 90 points away from the lower 25% percentile score of 1140. If you can raise your SAT score to atleast the 1100s to 1150s, you will have a better shot, but still not much of a shot. Unless your essays are one of the best that the college has seen, i dont think that you will get in, and even if your essays are great, it will not help THAT much. Dont forget that good essays are a must, and with those, you still have a much better shot -but dont despair because this is just my opinion...

i hope you prove me wrong and get into the college! I would be very happy for you!

Good luck, and I hope you get in!
