I'm excting glowing recs and a good essay but will being Asian and from California count against me? Are my ECs good enough? Thanks in adavnce for any help!

Over represented state, over represented ethnicity, you aren't a National Merit Scholar unless you have already graduated, average ECs. Better have some matches and safeties.

No. No one is ever in just like that. Especially people who ask online if they can get in :)
If you want to improve something, high light your essays...you seem to have done interesting things. Make stories behind them. Don't say "I did it for my resume." Actually, if you don't end up saying anything, the Yale admissions office will (justifiably) assume you did it only for your resume (since most students do). Explain why you did each and every task, every detail. Show how those characteristics will make you a good asset for Yale. Don't show Yale how badly you want them...show them how badly they want you.

**** being Asian from California. I'm Asian, and I hate the whole thing in admissions and Asian-ness, but deal with it. Yes, it will count against you! But, does that mean Asians from Cali don't get in?

Don't expect glowing recs. Just write everything as they were neutral or not a factor, and don't gauge your chances by them.

I really wish you good luck. You've done some awesome things and are strong in your EC's...just show it.
