Hi- Princeton has been my dream school for an extremely long period of time. Do you think I could get in? I'm in the Class of 2008, which is unfortunate because Princeton no longer offers an early admission program.

My stats are:
SAT I Reading-800
SAT I Math-800
SAT I Writing-760
(I only took the SATs once)
SAT II Literature-780
SAT II Chemistry-790
SAT II US History-800
SAT II Chinese-800

I'm in the International Baccalaureate Program, and this past year, I took six AP exams, making a total of nine so far. I have a 3.98 cumulative unweighted GPA, and a 4.66 cumulative weighted GPA.

I have several leadership positions both in and out of school, I worked on a political campaign last summer, and this summer I have a congressional internship. I volunteer regularly in my community as well.

Besides Princeton, I'm also considering: Harvard, Yale, Brown, UChicago, Georgetown, Wellesley, Amherst/Williams, Emory, and William and Mary.

Her ECs:
"I have several leadership positions both in and out of school, I worked on a political campaign last summer, and this summer I have a congressional internship. I volunteer regularly in my community as well."

The applicants from main land China is extremly competitive, tons of them have nearly perfect tests scores, but almost non of them can play any sports at high school JV level.

I've been class treasurer for the past three years, I'm on the Principal's Advisory Committee, I am the president and founder of my school's Young Republicans Club, the president and founder of the Chinese Culture and Games Club, the state co-chair for MDTARS, a school ambassador, VP for the French Honors Society, and the student adviser on the Board of Education's Wellness Policy Workgroup. I am on my school's state champion quizbowl team, and I placed first in the statewide Economics Challenge prelims, and ended up being a finalist. I was nominated for a national writing contest (results come back in October) and I was also selected to be a contestant in the Miss Teen Maryland pageant (which is in November). I was a district winner at the National Piano Playing Auditions, and I placed 6th at a presitigious regional competition. I work as a counselor at a leadership workshop, and I interned for a political campaign last summer. I'm interning on Capitol Hill this summer. I also have more than 600 hours of community service.

Holy cow, your profile is amazing. I'm in the same year you are (2008) and thus have not gone through admissions yet, so I don't feel I can give you an accurate chancing, but your scores, ECs, grades, etc. are all top-notch. :)

tyrus, how do applicants from mainland China relate to this? I do believe she's from Maryland...

i envy your scores. now..do u have any tips/advice on those sat I and sat IIs?? my modest SAT (2200) and subject test scores (math: 720, lit:680, us history: 690) are really holding me back..agh.

u definitely have a chance though. have u had any state/national awards or honors though?

chersie i think you'll get into one of the big three (HYP). toss the chinese 800 though cause it's a bogus test score (60% of the test takers get 800). but like the other posters said you'll need to stand out somehow with your subjectives (EC, essay, recommendations)

to you'llsee: huh? i don't really understand your post

to perpetualmotion: the practice books tell you not to take any practices for a week leading up to your actual test, but i took a practice every day that week. it really helped me focus on what i needed. then again, you might burn out, so take this advice with a grain of salt.

to firefox: if i throw out chinese, which i was actually thinking about, are the remaining three strong enough?

to everyone else: thanks so much for your help, and for those who are 2008 as well, good luck!!

Well, you can't "throw out" Chinese; it's now officially on your College Board report-thingy. An 800 is an 800, there is no way it is going to hurt you.

I hope you get in! Princeton has also been my dream college since as long as I can remember. I'm in the class of 2009, but I completely understand your nerves about being able to get in. The day they got rid of Early Decision was a sad day indeed. Good luck!
