I have done the SAT 3 times!!!!! 3 times!!!!! my scores have hardly improved.
Respectively my scores were: 1510, 1570, 1610.

my best scores are: maths 580, critical reading 520 and writing 550. I got a 10 on my writing essay, which was sure a big help on getting at least above 500. I really needed at least 1750 overall!
I signed up for the December sitting and there are less than 10 days left, I have 5 practice tests which I can work on. Can someone suggest a way for me to really bump my scores?
I am not a bad student, and I am quite good at maths, I was sort of expecting to get at least 600 for maths...

I know very little about SAT strategies, can someone post some short advice for me please? I also don't know how I should manage my time to do these 5 practice tests. I have a serious problem studying at home because somehow TVs really distract me even when they are not on, lol

when you do the 5 practice tests, dont just jump into them. read the stuff before the tests, the parts that teach you math/writing strategies. CR is harder to improve but you can definitely score higher on math or writing if you do enough practice. ESPECIALLY writing. if you just read through all the rules, you could definitely get a 600+.
or get help from a tutor.

I wish I had more time, then I would have hired a tutor for sure, but I am not so good with my managing skills as everyone can see.
For the first time I took the SAT I hardly even knew what it was about, stupidly I actually read the instructions costing me time haha
For the second time though I had some idea (didnt read instructions yipee) but I didn’t actually study…
The third time (October), I had actually done some prep, I bought the blue book and I read it all the way to the pratice tests, but I didn’t actually do any practice tests 100%, I did a few sections from 5 practice tests, now I only have 5 more practice tests which are ‘unseen’ to me.

I am going to try doing 1 practice test tomorrow (it’s past midnight right not lol) and I will correct it and see all my wrong answers and hopefully I will focus my entire day on it.

I have to stop slacking. I hate myself right now, I guess this serves me right for not preparing myself and managing my time. But I will try to get at least 650 on maths and maybe a 600 on writing… CR is too hard for me, even the questions I think are right are suddenly wrong haha

Sorry for my desperation and rather ranting. I wish good luck to all of us in whatever you are doing right now (application/ACT/SAT)

The best strategy for you at the moment is to familiarize yourself with the test as much as possible. 5 tests won’t improve your scores much.

CR: Your score is okay; don’t really worry about this section.
Math: Do one math practice, and REVIEW ALL THE questions one by one. The real test won’t differ as much.
Writing: Study your grammar rules.

Some people, including me, just aren’t good at taking tests. Even though I got a 5 on AP Calc AB last year, I only have 690 on SAT Math, and only a 30 on ACT Math.

lol thanks puggly123… fortunately i am an optimistic

@webass thank you so much! this really really helps me a lot. I am also bad at taking tests, for some reason I get very unlucky on test day… I actually was in higher level maths for IB, and I was one of the few actually succeeding, but the topics we learnt are pretty different from the ones on the SAT. I also haven’t reviewed grammar since prep school lol

I suggest getting a tutor and working through different prep books for over a long period of time. It is less likely to improve a score between two months, than between four or six months.
