Am I kidding my self about Yale?

I am an african american middle class female applying to UMiami, FAU, NYU, smith, barnard, UPenn, Columbia, Yale, and Harvard. I want to major in psychology (preferably Biopsychology) I attend a pretty reputable highschool......lots of kids from here have gone to ivy leagues.

GPA: 3.7 uwd and 5.2 wd(don't ask me how...I was shocked when I found out but i'm not complaining)
Rank: 4 out of 58 (93%)

SAT II: To be taken in jan.
ACT: 27

I wasn't really involved in anything in 9th grd. In 10th grd I did participate in the key club, and the NHS club [i wasn't inducted b/c didn't have enough hours]
I also should have at least 300 comm. serv. hrs from all over the place [the costume dept., the library, the arts festival, the hospital, and math tutoring]
I should also note that I swithced schools in the 10th grd, and the new school didn't really have many ECs available...........so i don't really have any ECs that stretch over the 4yrs
no sports, not b/c I don't like them, but b/c I wasn't really interested in joining any school sport teams in 9th and 10th grd (no sports at recent school)

Awards
Not really many of those.....I do get academic awards and certificates like best math student or best writer but I don't know if Yale will really be impressed by awards like those

Summer activities
9th grd: work with mother
10 grd: work with father (as you can see, they're divorced)
11th grd: College classes w/library volunteering (also trip to philly; visited uPenn)
no paid work experience whatsoever......except if you count selling candy
I also have excellent recommendations and essays

12 college credit hrs of spanish (honors)
Taking AP Biology Online

So does anyone think I have a chance at colleges such as Yale? If not what about NYU? Does is look bad that most of my ECs really begin in the 11th grd? I know the SAT is low but is it possible that they might acceptme based on everything else? What should I do to soften the blow of a 1270? I know this post might be kind of long so THANK YOU to anyone who responds or gets all the way through.

None of us really know for sure. Regardless, the appropriate place for this thread is in the Chances forum. People there do a thorough job guessing chances for many schools. You'll get several responses.

Thanks for responding Lindsey...I thought I'd try it here because this thread is especially for Yale (sorry). BTW what is this thread for? Is it just to find out about life at Yale or something like that?

I wasn't trying to be mean or anything. It's just that the most appropriate place to ask about chances is in the Chances Forum. You'll find that the kids on the Yale board are some of the most friendly and helpful you'll meet. If you search the threads, you'll see lots of threads about components of the application, the latest Yale information, support regarding the wait for admissions decisions, and lots about Yale life too. There are several Yale undergrads on the board that are very helpful for answering question as well.

Since you called me mean in a different thread...
See the following thread in the Brown forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=7703

The kids on the Yale board really are the nicest you'll find. Nonetheless, this isn't the place for us to evaluate your stats, that's what the "What Are My Chances?" Forum is for. That's why it's called that. Chances forums do create clutter and interrupt the flow of our board. All we're asking is that you post in the appropriate place, we're not trying to be mean.

I'm sorry Lindsay......I'm not trying to call you (specifically) mean ...I was merely commenting on how the people who were posting on flipchick's thread were kinda being mean to her. Plus I saw her responses after getting yours so it kinda seemed like everyone was getting those "stop posting on our thread" responses.
I know why the chances thread is called "What are my chances?"
Once again I'm sorry I posted it here and I'm sorry I asked.......I thought I were supposed to post about Yale on the Yale thread. Plus I figured there would be some people on the yale thread that were already accepted.....and then they could comment on my chances.
I know no one is trying to be mean (in fact on other threads in yale everyone IS really nice )....but the statement does come out a little standoffish (especially when all I can do is read it and not hear the way you're saying it).

I got a 1270 too. I am a dominican from one of the crappiest schools out there. I have a gut feeling that we are screwed but hey you never know. What worries me more is that i scored a 570 in writing.

Well I just recently learned that we still have time to take either test over. I'm gonna do standby SATI for dec and then SATII for jan. That way if my score continues to suck I still have two months to study my ass off for the SATII......I really just have to focus on the writing.

I don't want to be harsh, but a 1270 + lack of activities before 11th grade will make it hard for you to get into Yale. It seems like you have a great chance at NYU, though. Work on those essays, and apply to Yale because you owe it to yourself to shoot for what you want.
