Am I kidding myself?

So, I recently started second guessing my colleges list. I don't know that I can get into any of them. I thought I would get into a couple at first but now I'm not sure. Can you give me an honest opinion about whether I have unrealistic expectations or not? Thanks...

Colleges:
Vassar
Hamilton
Colgate
Haverford
CMU
Oberlin
Pitt (safety)
Connecticut College
Colby
U Penn (reach)

Me: 3.92 GPA, 2290 SAT, 6ish extracurriculars and president of only one, do dance, in the orchestra, good amount of community service. Thats about it. thanks...

I would suggest some more safeties, and maybe matches, too, but from the small amount of info you gave, you would certainly be a good candidate for any of them. However, with the number of great candidates like you applying, it would be good to have some more “likely” schools that you really like as well!

If you’re extracurriculars match up with whatever your passion is, I would say that you have a good shot. I know that colleges don’t like deadwood or people that just hold an office to use it as a resume booster. So the fact that you are the president of only one club is okay.

Your list is fine, no unrealistic expectations here. Good luck!

I honestly think this is a fine list.

If you like your safety, and know that you can get in based on your stats, and you know that you can pay for it without any aid other than what might be guaranteed based on your stats and aid determined by FAFSA, then you can have a list that is just one safety and a bunch of reaches. Every year there are plenty of students who design their list that way.

Pitt has an excellent academic reputation, and offers excellent merit-based aid. If you are happy with Pitt, and you know that you would choose it over the “matches” that people propose to you, there is no reason to force yourself to apply to any of those “matches”.

I believe those are realistic expectations you’ve set for yourself. Good luck!
