Am i killing myself for the first semester?

My Major is computer science. I will be going to Queens College in NY. So for my incoming freshmen year first semester i have taken these.

Calculus 1
Discrete Mathematics
Intro to Algorithmic Problems/Coding - Computer Science
General Biology W/ Lab

Everyone is telling me I am taking hash classes. Do you think so? I am the type of person who likes to balance his social life with his studying. I don't want to overload myself with studying. Do you think this is a Harsh Schedule as well?

I think this schedule is too much the same - you will be draining in problem sets, labs, etc. - with 4 science classes (I consider math and computer both sciences) Switch out a math or bio for a humanities class of some kind (there has to be one you need for your degree). This way you are more balanced with one reading/writing class and 3 sciences.

Isn’t that a good thing though since one will compliment the other.

As a general rule, if at all possible you want to vary the type of work you’ll have to do for your classes. It tends to make the work more manageable because you’re not wearing yourself out doing the same thing for each class.

As an example (computer science as well), these are the classes I took this past spring quarter: German, a religious studies class, intro to object oriented programming, and calculus. That workload was fairly heavy when the work from every individual class is taken into account, but it felt very manageable because the type of work varied.

Long story short, I’d personally recommend that you replace bio or a math with a humanities GE, as kiddie said.

You should take Calc OR Discrete Math not both.
CS is compulsory for you as are English 110 and either a Humanities or a foreign language class.

That leaves the possibility of Bio w/ lab if you’re ready to work very very hard.
