I am a junior in high school in Texas and am currently looking at schools in California, specifically SDSU. I have taken my SAT once and planning on taking it again. My 1st score was a 1600. I know this is low, hopefully my 2nd time will be much better. My GPA is a 3.6 unweighted, I have will have 5 AP credits under my belt once I graduate, I am in the top quarter of my graduating class and as for extracurricular I'm involved in 5 orginizations/ clubs. I hope to go into college focusing on speech pathology and audiology considering my passion for asl and the deaf culture (i am in my 3rd year of American Sign Language). So I know standards are much higher for out of state students which is why my goal is to significantly raise my SAT score and take the ACT. However, if I were to apply now, how much of a reach would it be to get in for me?

Based on your stats now, I would give you a 50:50 chance. Raise those scores and you would be in a better position along with being out of state. Cal States are looking for out of state students that are willing to pay the extra fees. Just remember, Cal States offer little financial aid to OOS. Can and will your parents pay close to $30,000 for you to attend? I would run this by your parents before applying next year. Good Luck

Yeah when I was born my parents started a college fund so we’ve been setting aside money for that for about 17 years now. It’s really just a matter of getting in. Thank you so much for your feed back!

Will that fund cover out-of-state tuition plus graduate school, as well? The field you’ve chosen requires a Master’s degree at minimum and in some states, Audiology requires a doctorate.
