Am I making the right choice?

My College Decision

Hello everyone, I need some major advice. I narrowed my college decisions down to Queens College and UAlbany. I will be majoring in accounting. My heart is set on UAlbany because of them being nationally ranked, having a 98% school of business job placement rate and having 50% of their accounting grads being employed at a Big 4. UAlbany is a Nationally ranked business school. Versus Queens College business department that I don’t hear much about. I would be going to QC for free which is why my father wants me to go there so bad but we can afford UAlbany. I feel UA will give me better opportunities and better resources and I feel I will come out more successful there than QC. I want to experience going away as well. In everyone’s opinion, will going to UAlbany be a better choice?

I have to smile, sadly, at your dilemma. I couldn’t afford to go to Queens College because it was a 2 fare zone, so I wound up at a local CUNY in the borough I lived in. That said, my friends who went to QC and majored in accounting have all done well for themselves. My information is, however, decades old, as my age group is approaching retirement.

I worked hard so that my kids could go away and the 3 who wanted to did go to upstate SUNY schools.

Both programs are good, so if your family can afford SUNY Albany and you want to go away, I say go for it. If it will be a financial struggle, go to Queens and see if you can use some of the saved money for a study abroad program one semester or year.

Good luck.

Good luck deciding!
