Am I making the right decision?

So I recently chose U Mich over Cornell Engineering. I feel like Cornell is a better place for me and all that other goody stuff and its a school that i have been wanting to go to for a while, but mich is prolly not gonna be bad. My choice mainly came down to the fact that MICH costs 23 K a year for me to go (20K scholarship), while Cornell will cost me 52 kish(i applied for fin aid, but was demmed to have no need). Parents can afford to pay a max of about 20 k a year (kinda pushing it, but they are willing to do it), so with mich i will have to take about 40k loans and with Cornell I would have to take 120k in loans.

I am going into engineering, but want to end up getting an MBA after working for a lil bit etc and go into financial consulting etc.

Dunno, being given these two great options, and already having chosen one place, I am starting to get cold feet. I dont want to regret in the future of not going to a school like Cornell specially since it was a school that I was really interested in for a while. Dunno, maybe this is just me getting a case of cold feet.....

no you did not make a bad choice…

best of luck at michigan…

No, you made the right decision. In today’s society, we are unfortunately able to go to whichever school we get in to. You picked based on money, and although that’s not a reason we want to pick schools for, its the responsible one.

If your parents were comfortable in paying 50,000/year, then I would say you should go with Cornell. But it is not reasonable for you to graduate with 120,000 student loan, especially if you want to get MBA later. It would be very hard for you to pay 120,000 as an engineer.

Another thing to note is U. Mich is not exactly a sub par school. You are very fortunate and must have great stats to get a scholarship from them.

It sounds like a pretty solid decision to me. UMich has an outstanding reputation in engineering. I have a lot of friends who go there for various engineering majors and say they are happy. The only downside may be that weather in Ann Arbor is supposedly a lot worse than Cornell’s.

you’re the only one who knows if da choice is right

I think you made a very responsible decision. Don’t worry about it because you’ll do very well where you’re going. Besides, you could always apply to Cornell for graduate school, right?

Anyway, good luck! :)

ann arbor is a great city : )

As awesome as Cornell is, that’s a pretty darn good deal for UMich, and is definitely better than nothing from Cornell.

Michigan will be a great fit. You made the right and mature decision. You’ll love it there and won’t be in piles of debt.

Go to Michigan, you have made a great decision!

financial crisis, man. go with the money - u made the right choice, imo

haha, well this thread makes me feel better lol. thanks for the input everyone!

Absolutely a good decision. U Mich and Cornell have equally strong engineering programs in the nation. U Mich ranks #7 and Cornell #8 in U.S.News. You save the cost difference for MBA.
I get where you’re coming from, but look at it this way, it’s not like you’re turning down Cornell for some obscure community college; U Mich is a great school and well known/respected around the country. You definitely made the right call.
