That’s all. Thanks for reading. I just want to know if I’m on the right path for dartmouth.
@Jeanlaguerre Your UW GPA is low so but you have a fairly high W GPA without a lot of AP’s, can you explain this, as it is probably specific to your high school.
It is way too early to know. You just have one years GPA and no standardized tests. In addition with holistic admissions things like essays, ECs, recommendations etc. must also be exemplary.
It is good to take school seriously and know that college will be on your horizon, but it is too early to start planning for specific colleges. I would highly recommend that you get off of CC until mid-junior year. Over the next year I suggest you focus on:
–Working hard, learning, and doing as well as you can in the most challenging curriculum you can manage.
–When the time comes study for standardized tests.
–Continue your involvement in activities you care about and work towards making meaningful contributions to those activities.
–Enjoying spending time with your family and friends.
As a bit of unsolicited advice, I’d recommend that you give up the idea of a dream school and when the time comes work to create a solid college list that includes reach, match, and safety schools that appear affordable (find out your parents’ budget and run the net price calculator for each school) and that you would be happy to attend. The people I see who get hurt by the college admission process are the ones who focus on one or two hyper-competitive schools and then don’t get in. Cast a wide net and recognize that (assuming no major hook) Dartmouth, with an acceptance rate hovering around 10%, is a reach for pretty much everyone.
@CU123 didn’t miss it, just wondering whether they had any others that they didn’t mention!
@Jeanlaguerre I agree with the above comment, the UW GPA is a bit low, but your hooks + ECs + W GPA is good, so keep it up! Nobody can say for sure, but good luck!
The 3.54 unweighted is what would concern me wrt getting into Dartmouth. I would suggest that you try to bring this up a bit for the rest of this year and all of next year. An upward trend from here would significantly help your chances.
What do you plan to study at college? Your ECs right now aren’t that focused—trying to develop a “spike” would really help when applying to Ivy League schools.
@Jeanlaguerre - in response to your GPA question, I would try to bring it up as much as possible. Most applicants are going to have an uw GPA of 3.75 or higher. With the 3.75 being on the lower end.
Bring that UW up as much as possible. 3.75+.
Focus on standardized testing and ex’s. Don’t do a lot of activities but make sure you make a difference in your school or community with the ones you choose.
You need a much higher UW GPA and taking 6 AP’s is not enough. You have good extra curriculars so far but you should make sure your ACT/SAT should be high to compensate for your GPA. I think you should try to take at least 9 AP’s, Dartmouth is very competitive. Good luck though, you are on the right track!
You want an UW GPA of at least a 3.8, an SAT score of at least 1500+ or an ACT score of 33+, and two 700s+ on SAT subject tests. Your URM hook will probably help, but you need those stats first to be a competitive applicant
